WANTED:   Parts Needed posted by: Jay on 8/11/2001 at 10:01:06 PM
I need a source for some oddball parts. First is axle nuts for a Sachs duomatic kickback. The axle is 13/32 x 26tpi threads. The other thing is for a brooks saddle. It's an old B-33 & it's missing the bottom triple rail piece that bolts to the springs front & back & the seat clamp(guts) bolt into the middle.

MIDDLEWEIGHT:   Looking for a blue Schwinn Corvette Seat. posted by: John on 8/11/2001 at 6:30:24 PM
I was talking to a friend yesterday who told me he planned to restore the blue Schwinn Corvette he has had since he was 11 or 12 years old (we're both mid 50's now). The bike is complete except for the seat. Does anyone know where one might find a blue Schwinn seat to go with his project?

Rick, based on the model #'s of some of my Monarks I think you may have a 1949. If a 49' it should have a pedestal head light or marks where this was, it should have or show an outline of a small rocket on the front fender, it should have a chrome headshield that wraps onto the tank, it should have a one piece rear reflector in which the top part of it is shaped lie a Gothic arch. The correct carrier or this bike would be the famous " cheese grater".
Now, I am not an authority or figuring out what year by the model #, but this I can tell you. I have what I know is a 47' S. Deluxe and waht I know is a 50'Super Deluxe. The 1947 model # is 4406, the 1950 is 4409 and I have another which I believe is a 1951, which reads 4400. Now IF the model #'s increased each year and 1947 was 4406, then 4409 is 1949. I do have original ads that show each year in deatail. If you need more info e-mail me and we can scrutinize the bikes details and find out what year it is. Hope this helps.

I would like to buy an original front fender or a replacemnt fender for an AMF Roadmaster. Fender must fit only 26x 1.75 tire. I can't find anything out about AMF.Did someone take them over, did they go out of buisness ? Help , PLEASE !

RE:AGE / VALUE:   AMF Front Fender 1960's posted by ChristopherRobin2@starmail.com on 8/10/2001 at 11:39:56 AM
AMF (American Machine and Foundry) made a lot of things that are dear in a lot of peoples minds. And yet, it seems to be gone without a trace. The web isn't much help right now is it? I suggest checking at swap meets and collecting the swap dealers cards. Keep looking as it is definetly out there. Look in the database here of past posts.

One or two braces? I think I have both but would like to know which you need before I go digging.

AGE / VALUE:   Old Schwinn posted by: Bud on 8/8/2001 at 2:05:32 PM
Yes I realized that the last post was a little short. The time on it is not right, it was later. anyways.....
The bike is a Schwinn 26" ballon tire bike. It has a 'skip-tooth' chain and crank sproket. The crank sproket has heart shaped holes. The bike doesn't have any tank, nor appear to have ever had one (i.e.- scews holes, mounting bracket..). It is a dirty red now., but judging from under the seat it was a bright red at one time. It has the popular scallops in white. The Schwinn badge on the fork tube is oval with an airplane at the top, 'Schwinn' in the middle and a locomotive on the bottom. It has a springer fork with a front fender that is pointed at the front end and has faux louvers at the trailing bottom edge. The bike does not have a chain guard or rear tire/wheel. I have looked all over the bike with my shop light and can only find the one set of ## on the bottom of the crank ; D31637
I don't know about others on this site, but I am getting hooked on playing around with these old bikes. I have fixed and given away four so far.

By the way, it's a boys frame....

RE:AGE / VALUE:   Old Schwinn posted by sam on 8/8/2001 at 2:52:12 PM
I like the planes and trains headbadge.Look close at the paint for rub marks on the frame--it may have had a tank. The tanks did not attach to the frame, both haves screwed together. This is a good find even with out the rear wheel/fender.

RE:AGE / VALUE:   Old Schwinn posted by Bud on 8/8/2001 at 3:00:35 PM
Well you were right Sam. I went out and looked at it again, sure enough it had a tank at one time. I wish I knew what it was, so I could know what type of tank and chain guard to look for. Would any fit as long as they come from the same year and size bike? I still need to confirm the year to look though. Thanks for the help.

There are three type of Schwinn men's tanks (not counting the prewar stuff ), the cantilever, the "straightbar" and the DX tank. Visit my website to compare your bike to some that I have, this might help narrow down the model that you have. http://www.concentric.net/%7Errrrguy/bike.html . Just copy and paste. The 1952 year seems correct.

It might be older. Which way does the rear wheel come off. Towards the crank or away?

RE:RE:RE:RE:AGE / VALUE:   Old Schwinn posted by JOEL on 8/9/2001 at 7:40:51 AM
The front fender doesn't sound like a Schwinn fender. Maybe from a luxury liner or something??

RE:AGE / VALUE:   Old Schwinn posted by Bud on 8/9/2001 at 2:17:49 PM
The rear tire comes off towards the crank. I will check out your site MNSmith, thanks. The springer fork has the same 'AS' bolt as the new fork I have on another bike.

RE:AGE / VALUE:   Old Schwinn posted by Bud on 8/9/2001 at 3:01:05 PM
The frame is you typical classic arched Schwinn frame. One tube over the smaller two, from the fork tube to the seat tube. So any tank from that style right?

RE:RE:AGE / VALUE:   Old Schwinn posted by MNSmith on 8/10/2001 at 10:11:27 AM
Yes, the tank you need will be a cantilever tank. Your bike could have been a B4 or a B6. Since it had a tank, more like a B6.

Could anyone help me decode the serial on a Schwinn I just got? An old couple near me just moved and left an old Schwinn. The serial was found on the bottom of the crank housing and is ; D31637 This is the only ## I can find. According to the database here, I think it is from '52 (?) Any help is greatly appreciated. -- Bud
