AGE / VALUE:   Schwinn Corvette posted by: Tim Welsh on 8/23/2002 at 8:58:58 PM
Hello. There's an all original 59 Schwinn Corvette (3 speed) for sale in my city. I have checked the prices of these bikes on e-bay, and they are very low! The seller here is asking about $200 US. Is this way out of range? I like the bike, but I only know values of vintage lightweights. Thanks for any guidance.

A super nice one might bring $200.

You can get burned on the Corvette. People pay more than they can recover come selling time. The bike has to be primo mint with all it's parts and really cheap or forget it.

I had just got this huffy bay pointe 3 speed, and I was wondering about how old it is, and about how much it may be worth in new condition?

I see them on Ebay under: "Schwinn Phantom"
Try Memory Lane, 24516 Third St., Grand Rapids, Oh, 43522, Phone: 419-832-3040
I have purchased some from Maple Island a couple of years ago also.
There is a good one with paint on it and there is also one that looks like black paint but it is just a black paper type decal.

I just checked Maple island and they have them as low as about $39.
Go to: http://www.mapleislandsales.com/
Do a search on their site for TANKS and the cantilever tanks came up on the second page.
Good luck!

AGE / VALUE:   Value of a 1963 Schwinn Tandem posted by: Kevin K on 8/18/2002 at 3:27:30 PM
Hi. A friend picked up a very nice ( scale 1-10 ) 8.5-9 1963 Schwinn Tandem. Single speed. Campus Green (?) color. Seats and decals/silk screening really nice. Some chips/scratches but nothing to really distract from the items. New Westwinds installed sometime in the past and never ridden. Checked ebay but prices they really offered little help. So any realistic ideas on prices for a jem of a 63 Schwinn Tandem ?

AGE / VALUE:   Penney's posted by: mar on 8/16/2002 at 12:28:21 AM
I had this question posted in a different area and someone suggested I post it here, so here goes. My son has a bike that I think is from the 1950's from looking at other bikes that look similar. Now we know nothing about vintage bikes and are wanting to put this one on ebay. The only name on the bike is Penney's, it is on the frame and on the tires. We are hoping to find out some information on the bike before we decide what to do with it. I have looked around online and can't find anything about a "Penney's" bike.
Does anyone have any info?

It's a store branded bike from JC Penney.

AGE / VALUE:   1940 Elgin Herschel Siler posted by: Zac on 8/15/2002 at 3:43:34 AM
I have some questions I hope someone can answer. I have an
Elgin Herschel Siler and I don't know anything much about it. I'm not sure what year it is but the serial number is 231638. I aslo don't know this bikes rareity and value. Its old dirty and little rusty but all there. It has the original tires but it doesn't hold air. It has been repainted or at least painted on at some time in its life because someone has put like a white pin stripe design on it and didn't do it very good. All I know is that it is a Herschel Siler because I saw a color photo of one and this one matches. It has the little cut-outs in the rear fender and the very ornimentally designed chain gaurd, as well as the skip tooth chain ring. Its all complete but needs restored. Any info you could provide me with is greatly appreciated. Please email me with your answers @ keeter57@pdnt.com. Thank you for your time.

AGE / VALUE:   Monark SilverKing posted by: Leslie on 8/14/2002 at 5:04:48 PM
i recently ran across an aluminum Monark SilverKing, it has some rust on the fenders and handle bars and one otiginal tire. Is 500 to much to pay for this bike? Appreciate any input.

RE:AGE / VALUE:   Monark SilverKing posted by Joel on 8/14/2002 at 5:41:07 PM
Depends on which model and the condition. The fenders should be stainless steel and the bars aluminum. Do your homework before spending that kind of $$$.

RE:RE:AGE / VALUE:   Monark SilverKing posted by Leslie on 8/14/2002 at 6:20:49 PM
Yes Joel, I certainly will be. Under SilverKing, on the name plate It says, Monark Battery Co.Inc. Chicago USA and under that it says, US and foreing patents pending. Does this mean anything as to which model it might be?

RE:RE:RE:AGE / VALUE:   Monark SilverKing posted by Joel on 8/14/2002 at 6:43:44 PM
No info there. What does the frame look like? Does it have a locking fork? Boy's/Girl's??? The rusting fenders and bars are suspicious... You might be looking at a frankenbike. Is the front fork aluminum? Does it have a headlight? More details.

RE:AGE / VALUE:   Monark SilverKing posted by sam on 8/14/2002 at 9:40:49 PM
The standard models had painted fenders.
