AGE / VALUE:   1940's / 1950's Monark Super Deluxe posted by: Corey on 4/14/2005 at 3:38:18 AM
I just picked up a Monark Super Deluxe mens bicycle. It is mostly blue and white. Has original leather seat in decent shape. It is all original. Paint is OK, but chipped. It has a big ornament on the front fender and a tank like deal on the top bars. Any idea on year or approximate value.
Thank You
Corey

There is a Monark Super Deluxe on ebay item # 7149671054. Is it like this one? If so, check back on ebay with the item number after the auction is over and find out what it sold for. Keep in mind the condition of this one and the condition of yours. On ebay, go to Collectibles > Transportation > Bicycles for the old bikes and parts and search for Monark and see what comes up.

I have a mens complete bike in VG condition that I picked up a couple of years ago at a thrift shop. It looks old and seems to be virtually all original except for the handle grips and front wheel (which appear to be schwinn). The badge on the front reads Bluegrass Tool Company. I have searched the web for more info but have found nothing...plenty on the tool company but no mention of the bikes. Saw the badge once on E-bay going for twenty bucks but have never seen or heard of a complete bike. When are they from? Thanks.

The Bluegrass bikes I've seen have been Murrays.

Bluegrass was headquartered in Louiville Kt. I think,I have several of their hammers--very good quality--the hammers anyway. They were a type of mail order/and hardware chain.Went out of buss. in the 80s--sold everthing in the hardware line- sure miss them--sam

Yup, I've got their pocketknives... It may be Schwinn built, some retailers put their badge on bikes from more than one builder.

Thanks for the info. It's surprising how few of these I see referred to. It's a good looking, pretty straight ahead english style bike. I like the sort of solid, hardworking blandness of it. Someday I'll find someone to restore it. In the meantime, now I know a little more about it. Thanks.

Can any of of you guys help me out? I`m looking for a front or set of fenders for a 56 Schwinn Tiger a very odd shade of green with long "darts" that are cream colored and pin striped. I bought some Wald replacements but not happy with them. They don`t have to be in real good shape but I don`t want to paint them, that would lead to painting the entire bike to get it to match and I don`t want it to look like a new bike but a bike that is 48 yrs old ( if you know what I mean) Tim

There are at least 20 pictures of Elgins in the picture database. That should help you figure out it's age.
Then look in the archives here. There's a ton on info on them.

I'd say you got a good deal---the girls bike of this age might not go too much higer in price---around $50-$75 range. but finding a good balloon schwinn to use is still great.Clean and regrease all the barrings and your ready to have some summer fun!---sam
