Trying to figure out why the pedals turn continuously, won't coast and no ability to brake. How do I repair it.

If you're talking about a three speed hub the problem is likely cable adjustment. See www.sheldonbrown.com and click on "old bikes" then scroll to the three speed section for the procedure. Its not difficult.
If it is a single speed it could be a broken brake clutch that has allowed parts to wedge.

BALLOON:   any information possible posted by: mike on 5/30/2005 at 2:52:58 AM
recently picked up a 'Standard Cycle Products' balloon tire bike which needs a chainguard, ( also tires but I think I have a couple of them) and I'm would like to know what shape the chainguard was and the colour-the bike is burgundy with white and blue markings, cream and blue on the front fork, and the wheels are burgundy with a white pinstripe. Any info or pictures of like bikes would be helpful....thanks...mike

I have one of those bikes. Unfortunately mine doesn't have a chain guard. Doesn't look like there was ever one. Do you think you could send me a pic of yours. Mine is missing much more than the chainguard. Here's all I have.

AGE / VALUE:   ANOTHER MYSTERY posted by: ROD on 5/26/2005 at 5:38:19 PM
I have another mysterious non-Schwinn that really puzzles me. It's a girl's bike that someone unfortunately painted over the original turquoise on not only the frame, the chainguard and the buzzer tank have also been victimized. The fork is flat as a Schwinn though not curved as such, and its crank-stamped serial # is MOT-W N-25 with 31188 just below; any help would be appreciated

AGE / VALUE:   western flyer posted by: antong gaug on 5/23/2005 at 3:09:48 AM
I have a western flyer that belonged to a relative that was killed in the battle of the buldge in 1945. We have pictures of him on this bike in his uniform. His cousin says that she thinks he got it in the middle thirtys she thinks. The serial number on the frame is 267481. It has aluminum fenders new departure hubs front and rear rear model D. The tires have regenerated rubber on them but they are in bad shape. It has a delta light on the front and back. The rims are painted I dont think they were ever chrome. Can anyone tell me the year and model by the serial number? I want to paint the rims. The spokes are rusty so how do I deal with them replace paint or what to rusty to clean them up I think. Also it looks like the rear hub had a seal in it but the rubber part of the seal is gone just the case left. Were can I get this seal or do I have to get the whole hub? Any information will help.
