I'm trying to identify an old bike I have. It has a number stamped on the bottom bracket 348819 the numbers are as irregularly spaced as possible. It has a spring in the headtube, with an external knee action set up. The drop outs point nearly straight back, and between the seat and chain stays is a threaded adjustment screw. mesinger seat, new depasrture hub, hunt wilde grips, 200 on pedal rubber. the chain guard has a long bullet shape on it with ribs rounding the chain wheel. Anyone know what it is?

Shelby made bike, possibly was badged as a Hiawatha. Made for only a few years in the early 1940's with the hidden springer which was called a "Shockease".

You didn't get ripped off---I paid $10 for a rusty one and $30 for a good one.Sometimes people pay a little more than $50 but not often---sam

I bought mine, a '60 Deluxe Tornado, for $25 in the most hideous condition: weathered, partial paintover, and missing items (front fender, tube & tire, Delta light, & tank). The fork was badly bent as if it was ran over by a vehicle. It's one of my daily riders that will be transformed into a mildly twisted custom in the future.

MIDDLEWEIGHT:   Flying Star posted by: John Berry on 9/5/2005 at 11:40:25 AM
I recently picked up a Man's Schwinn Flying Star. I've only seen one other, and that was a ladies' model. This one has a straight bar style frame, only with two bars instead of one. I've seen this style frame once before as a Corvette. Was this frame style rare? Was the Flying Star a short lived model? The bike can be easily restored. I'd like to know more about it.
