AGE / VALUE:Letter from Uncle Leon posted by: Scott on 9/13/2005 at 4:03:47 AM
this is an e-mail I received from Leon Dixon @ N.B.H.A.A.:
ok, so whats the deal? every time I write to you I get the distinct
feeling you're annoyed.>>
YOU OBVIOUSLY HAVE A VERY FRAGILE EGO. IF I WAS ANNOYED, I WOULD NOT BE WASTING THE TIME RESPONDING TO YOU TAKING WHATEVER TIME AND EFFORT IT REQUIRES.

I'm not asking you for sarcasm. I thought you
liked bikes. Why don't you treat people better? >>
I DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU EXPECT. AM I SUPPOSED TO PAY YOU FOR WRITING US? THERE WAS ZERO SARCASM IN THE RESPONSE... THAT IS YOUR IMAGINATION.

They say you're the guy to
ask about bikes but I would rather go without than deal with the attitude
you put out. >>
FINE... THERE ARE PLENTY OF DO-IT-YOURSELF SITES AND BOOKS FULL OF ERRORS AND GUESSES AND CONJECTURE BY "EXPERTS" THAT WILL MOLLYCODDLE YOU AND TELL YOU EVERYTHING YOU WANT TO HEAR EXACTLY THE WAY YOU WANT TO HEAR IT.

If your the expert, why don't you ask the pertinent questions
to help me figure out what year I have rather than giving such a
condescending answer. >>
I AM THE EXPERT. I WAS THE FIRST PERSON ON THE PLANET TO RESTORE ONE OF THESE BICYCLES. I WAS THE FIRST TO WRITE ABOUT THEM. AND I GIVE THE ANSWERS THAT I GIVE. THE PROBLEM WITH GUYS LIKE YOU IS THAT YOU WANT TO TELL ME WHAT YOU HAVE AND EXPECT ME TO AGREE. BUT WHEN I SIMPLY ASK YOU HOW YOU FIGURED OUT WHAT YEAR YOU HAVE, YOU GET PISSED AT ME WHO IS RESPONDING TO YOU FOR FREE. YOU ARE IN NO POSITION TO TELL ME WHAT QUESTIONS TO ASK YOU. AND I AM IN EVERY POSITION TO ASK YOU WHAT WAS CLEARLY ASKED OF YOU (AND WHAT YOU CHOSE TO IGNORE RESPONDING TO- INSTEAD PICKING A RIDICULOUS FIGHT WITH ME). IF THIS IS OFFENSIVE... DON'T WASTE OUR MUTUAL TIME.

I'm just looking for help on a bike that is fairly
rare. I thought you would be excited that another one was found and in
caring hands.>>
THAT IS NICE THAT YOU FOUND ONE. GOOD. GREAT. WHAT DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH YOUR QUESTION??? AND YOU ARE TELLING ME YOU ARE PISSED BECAUSE I DID NOT JUMP FOR THE SKY WHEN YOU SAID YOU HAVE ONE? I'VE HAD OVER 25 OF THEM AND WE GET LETTERS ABOUT ALL KINDS OF BICYCLES EACH AND EVERY DAY!! I AM SORRY IF I DID NOT EXPRESS SUFFICIENT EXCITEMENT TO PLEASE YOUR EXPECTATIONS!

I probably shouldn't burn this bridge but you're no help
anyway. Thank you for the information you've given me already, it is
apreciated. I hope you find some happiness and peace in your life, maybe
then you can be more helpful to others.
thanx.
Scott>>
HMMM. SO ONE MINUTE I'M "NO HELP"... THE NEXT YOU ARE THANKING ME FOR INFO I HAVE ALREADY GIVEN YOU. SOME OF YOU GUYS ARE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. YOU CONTRADICT YOURSELF IN THE SPACE OF ONE PARAGRAPH AND EXPECT ME TO TAKE WHAT YOU SAY SERIOUSLY? GO AHEAD AND BURN YOUR BRIDGE. MOST OF YOU ARE SPOILED INGRATES WHO WANT ENDLESS FREE INFORMATION AND DON'T EVEN STOP TO THINK THAT ALL THIS STUFF STARTED WITH ME IN THE FIRST PLACE. I SAVE THIS STUFF, PROMOTED IT, PAID RENT TO STORE IT, DRAGGED IT AROUND, GOT IT IN MAGAZINES AND RADIO AND TV... AND 30 YEARS LATER, GUYS LIKE YOU SHOW UP AND EXPECT ME TO KISS YOUR HYNIES. YOU OUGHT TO BE THANKING ME AND WATCHING YOU OWN MANNERS!

PLEASE DO US BOTH A FAVOR AND DON'T BOTHER WRITING BACK AND MAKING THINGS WORSE.

I am one of the few proud owners of a Challenger. Mine was a 38 first run copy, made by Arnold Schwinn. I would truly need to see photo's of this bike to help you determine its age and such. Id love to see it regardless!! Have a great day Wade.
