Hi:

I saw a bike at a garage sale this weekend called a ENSIGN. It looked 1930's- 1940's, but I have never heard of this type and can't find anything of the internet. ?? I wish I had looked closer, I might even be mispelling the name(sorry).

The bike also had the name of an Atlanta, GA hardware company on a permanent tag. It was a standard size mens bike with a tank in the middle. It had a flat carrying rack(not bars), chain guard and silver fenders. Blue/grey in color with a black triangle padded seat(leather?).

Any idea who the manufacturer might be?

Thanks,

Joe Cox - Birmingham, Alabama

Whatever the company that made it was done under Huffy; their 5-star sprocket chainring gave way. You can look up the serial# (located on the left rear dropout) by clicking on the serial# charts on this site. Good luck!

It's a mid 60's Huffy. I have a 66 Eldorado with the same frame, chainguard and sprocket.

26x1.3/8 wheels and really kewl semi rise bars, neat fun find, i lovde the gods of forgotten metal!!!

the thing is I've checked this site and a few others and can't really date the bike cause the serial number does'nt match up, it says chicago on it and has the right badging for a Chicago schwinn, probably a "World". the rear hub is stamped 68 10 which would be october 1968 but i think that reim might been put on later to modernize the bike, as the front rim and back are different and the front fender isn't original - thought the front forks are and are perfectly straigh, i always wanted a set of these old blade forks. anyway my serial number is on the rear stay, which means it could be a 68, my # is UA25764, any help would be appreciated.
