I came across this bicycle at a recycling yard and thought it was cool, I plan on fixing it up for my wife. Any info on this would greatly be appreciated. the only markings on it are the serial number and a headbadge. "Texas Ranger" drop me a line if you want to see more photos. THANKS!
I have my wife's fathers bicyle, it is a Monarch SilverKing Rocket Super Deluxe. I am trying to find out year/value of this bike. It is Red and Black with a "tank" with a built in horn (still works), front "springs", with balloon tires, and a rear rack. Missing the front light or reflector(unknow which it originally had).
Is there a method of determining the year of Cleveland welding bikes of the 1930's & 40's through serial numbers ? I'm looking to pin down exact year of my WWII era Roadmaster.
Nope. Have to go by literature and features. If it has a Morrow hub check the date code.
Well it does have a Morrow 'blackout' hub, stamped " machine division - Elmira NY, USA" followed by the numbers 04 36 13. The front is also a 'blackout' ut is a New Departure brand.
The bike is all original, came from a family friend, all they know is that it was bought before 1950.
My research indicates it's before 1946 and after 1938 from photos of other Roadmasters I've seen, curveed tank, skip tooth, half moon bars. After some cleaning, a little oil, and air in the chain tread tires it as ready to go...rides great!
The serial number under the bottom bracket appears to be E42956 which according to the charts seems to put it at 48 or 52. The head tube badge is missing and I think there used to be a tank, and the seat might not be original(AS bolt on seat clamp). I can't find any vintage pics exactly like it though.
I have front and rear pics also, just replace side.jpg with rear.jog or front.jpg.
here;s the picture
Looks like the add a picture deal doesn't work
This website for some reason replaces the tilde "'" with an apostrophe "'". Your bikes appears to be a Schwinn DX.
