WANTED:Hutch Jet posted by: Jason on 12/9/2001 at 6:40:41 AM
OK, this is gonna sound stupid but does anyone know where I can find a complete Hutch Jet? They made a bunch of them so there's gotta' be some somewhere. What did Western Auto do with all those things anyway? I have never seen one other than the one I used to have. I'd like to have one again if the price was reasonable.

MISC:hutch stickers posted by: steve on 12/5/2001 at 2:16:16 AM
I was at a garage sale today and saw a hutch bike.It had stickers that were blue and red in block letters with a line through the top. When did hutch change the logo? Why did they change it?Thanks

RE:MISC:hutch stickers posted by mike on 12/6/2001 at 4:24:36 AM
the styles were changed either in 87 or 88 to be a more upbeat and "futuristic" look. they were trying to up the sales that had fallen over the previous couple years due to the lack of quality in the taiwan-made frames. the attempt failed, and the hutch name ceased to be in late 89 or early 90. cw/revcore picked up the rights at this point and produced some "hutchins" framesets (hence the "judge 2") until they closed in late 91 or so. thats all i really know at this point and even some of this info may be incorrect or out of date.
was the hutch you saw at this garage sale a complete bike or just a f/f? was it fairly inexpensive? do you think it would still be there? and if so, would you be interested in buying it to use for some kind of trade? i ask this cause all i collect are hutch bikes and i dont have any racing frames from the later years, although i now have a trickstar 2 f/f set, and even it was difficult to aquire. the only other late 80`s freestyle i can think of (other than the excell?) was the "jet" and i`ve only seen one complete one of those.

AGE / VALUE:Extra Large Schwinn BMX Bike posted by: Frank on 12/2/2001 at 5:29:54 AM
I know a guy who works at my local Schwinn shop, and he owns a Schwinn bike like I've never seen. It looks like a BMX type bike in that it's got 20 inch wheels, bmx style handlebars, etc, but the seat tube is extra tall. The head tube is the normal height for a BMX type frame, giving the top tube a pretty healthy forward slant. He said that he thought it was called a "Quicksilver" maybe, and he said, I think, that it originally had flat handlebars on it. The frame looks nice, with an Ashtabula crank, and a round Schwinn headbadge, and it was origianally a deraileur shifted bike, as the forged rear dropouts have an integral deraileur hanger. He has it set up with a six speed freewheel, a giant chainring (at least 60 tooth, probably more), and 3 spoke metal mag wheels. He says the bike is incredibly quick, and he rides it daily. It's quite comfortable for an average size rider, he also advises. Does any body have any info on what kind of Schwinn this is?? Thanks in advance!!!!!!

If you can send me a pic, that would be great. I would like to see it if possible.

RE:RE:AGE / VALUE:Extra Large Schwinn BMX Bike posted by Frank on 12/9/2001 at 7:44:35 PM
I'll see what I can do to get a picture, but to be quite honest it's doubtful if I will. He or I niether one have the digital gadgetry to execute such a task as posting online pics. Thanks!

RE:AGE / VALUE:Extra Large Schwinn BMX Bike posted by Sean on 12/10/2001 at 12:37:51 AM
sounds alot like those "formula one" bikes that were being pushed in the late eighties. Many came with double disk wheels (covers), flat bars, jacked up seats, and 6-speed deraillers. I'm pretty sure I remember Haro marketing some thing similar.

RE:RE:AGE / VALUE:Extra Large Schwinn BMX Bike posted by Frank on 12/10/2001 at 9:50:29 PM
This sounds quite a bit like what he has (with the exception of the wheels and bars, which he admittedly changed). Do you know of any model names or numbers, or where pictures of one of these bikes are on the web? Were they common? Any other info you could provide would be much appreciated. I searched the net for formula one bikes and several variants thereof, but with no results. Thanks a lot.
