I got sooo many negative emails about that Sport on ebay that I just said to hell with it & went out today & bought a brand new 2001 DK Legend for $500.00. Rob, you're right man, I'm not gonna stop riding anytime soon. This thing is STRONG AS HELL, BUILT TO LAST!! I know ONE of the people that emailed me dissin the bike will probably buy it for his or herself but hey, some people are like that. I'm NOW interested in buying a pair of used Spin Thug 5 spoke mag wheels. Doe's anyone have on tape the 1986 Mountain Dew commercial that had Eddie Fiola & Ron Wilkerson in it. Eddie was doin a long bar ride while drinkin the dew & Ron was on a bright green Haro with black Skyway Tuff wheels.

Yo man, I gotta pair of those Spin Thug wheels. They're $200.00 brand new so I wouldn't think many riders have them because riders nowadays are only gonna spend that kind of money on custom wheels from Dan's Competition. I can tell ya that the thug wheels are the strongest mags you'll find anywhere & in my opinion worth $200.00 if you're into mag wheels. I wouldn't suggest buying a used pair of mags, take it from me, there's always somethin wrong & there not like rims where you can just replace the hub or a few spokes. Also welcome to the DK club, I gotta a black S.O.B.

Congrats Romero...you got a real bike....and incidentally, the Haro was a real bike too, just not in great condition.....i also already had the general lee and it was a real sweet bike, but kinda heavy.....i tried the Haro Backtrails x-3 too,but that bike weighed entirely too much........about the only thing i didnt like was your comment that so many peoples negative comments forced you to buy a new bike....c`mon dude.....you know you wanted the DK Legend....just admit it.....hehehe..LOL...anyways,on the spin thugs...get the latest /newest ones you can....there were some problems with the first models, and you will see those thugs all over ebay going cheap....for a reason....i know how we all like good/great deals, but those mags probably would be better if bought brand new..FrankenBlack nailed that one to the wall..and shake the snot out of them Before you pay for them....a lot of those have casting debris inside them, and make noise.....and for mags that are supposedly so straight,i have seen new ones that were not straight.....pretty much common sense.....well i guess the only question is what do you ride street, dirt, ramps or all of the above??

RE:Congrats posted by Romero on 2/2/2001 at 1:15:39 PM
I guess you & Franken Black are right Rob. Yeah I went to the local bike shop & saw Darth Vader (DK Legend) sittin there & it was soooo beautiful it had me droolin. Damnit, all I was gonna do was look around but you know how it is when you go to the supermarket on an empty stomach, oh well. I went over & picked it up & it was lighter than ever. Of course, it's a race bike, why not. I thought of the General Lee & the S.O.B. but like you said, those things are tanks & i'm only 5'8", 140lbs. The Legend fits me perfectly. Other than the wheels, the only changes i'm gonna make is a different smaller black seat & fixed DK seatpost, pegs, 20X1.95 or 75 size F/S tires, & either Haro Kneesaver II or GT Pro Freestyle bars & one of those locking devices that goes thru the stem to keep the bars & fork aligned, I had a real problem with that with my Haro Pro Model. I saw those Spins on ebay & nearly put a bid down until I read what Frank had to say. Goodlookin out man, guess I'll just have to fork out the dough for some new ones. I ride alot of street & I love mag wheels, especialy black on an all black bike.

Thanks for being a deadbeat bidder and driving the price of that Sport way out of whack.
Lame.
Like you would have done anything to that bike that would have made that frame come close to cracking. Dead sailor of a curb, maybe.

Hey Romero you did the right thing not gettin that bike, Mikes just understandably pissed off. $380.00, C'Mon that's almost more than it was brand new. It was lacking original parts & had rust on it as well. What that guy should've had was buy it now for $150.00 & none of this would've happened. Mike or someone else could have gotten it right away. Even though the 87 Sport is a classic, what are you gonna do, let it sit & stare at it, you're still young & riding right, O.K. then, HELL NO are you just gonna let it sit, you're gonna want to ride & with todays super aggressive riding standards, alot of yesterdays bikes just are not strong enough to hold up. That dude selling the bike will get over it mainly because HE STILL HAS THE BIKE IN HIS POSSESSION. He'll just put it back on ebay & more than likely get the same or more than the bidding went last time. Next time just know for sure what you want before you bid & don't ever let ANYONE tell you something you have that you think is valuable is junk. I think that's how this whole thing started in the first place. Oh yeah, better change your ebay ID as well, one negative feedback can ruin your account.

FEEDBACK ON EBAY posted by Rob on 2/6/2001 at 3:18:34 PM
just wanted to say this one thing....you mention that one negative feedback can ruin your account.....well,i would hope most people can read AND understand feedback....i myself have one negative and one neutral...both are what i call retalitory feedbacks....in other words,i left these worthless beings negative feedback for what THEY did,and i got neg,and neutral in RETURN......so,you cant automatically assume the worst...i indeed always do my absolute best to make buyors happy......and when they cant follow my oh-so-simple rules....i Will leave neutral or at the worst, negative feedback......i personally think its pretty crappy that i suffer for their incompetence..TWICE-OVER!!...first i get screwed over, and then i get crappy feedback---thats just not even right...so,dont always assume the worst if you see a negative/neutral feedback,as its easy to check up on a sellor /buyor and see what the feedback was actually ABOUT!!!......just watch out for the NON-Paying Bidders!!.......and just to make a point,i have 100 plus sales just on E-bay,with all very happy customers....which is the way i like them...Happy....

Anybody know when the Hutch GP-1 was made? It's a funny lookin' 20" parking lot racer with 6 speeds and disc wheel covers. I've got an NOS one and was wondering what it's worth and how old it is. I also have a NOS Dyno slammer with a bash guard from 1991 that I was wondering on the approx. value and if anyone was interested in either of these NOS bikes. Thanks.

RE:AGE / VALUE:   HUTCH GP-1 parking lot racer ??????? posted by Rob on 2/1/2001 at 9:04:10 AM
the Hutch is more of an oddity...it is a Hutch tho,so you have a vintage rare oddity....value??...wow,thats a hard one...it could be as low as 100,and as high as 3-400--or,it might go thru the roof...thats a bike that never caught on,and is limited in use too......if you want to contact a fellow whos collecting AND showing these Hutch bikes, give me a shout, and i will pass his e-mail address to you.....on the Dyno, well there arent many people who collect Dynos......however,the slammer is the only Dyno i ever liked,so,again, drop me a line,as i would be interested myself in the Dyno......thanx,Rob

The bike sounds cool, I have a Hutch HPV Superbike which is similar. Disc wheel covers, Fairings like a motorcycle, And a 63 tooth chainring. If anyone has info on stuff like this, I'd be interested to see it.

The problem with selling you any Redline items is the fact that you won't offer much. Everyone wants something for nothing. From what I hear, you have a very late model RL-20 II, and I hate to tell you this, but they are not that highly sought after. They are not as collectible as the frame and fork sets from 1985 and 1986.

Dude, thanx a lot....thanx for insulting me....obviously you seem to think i should HAVE to pay big bux for Redlines...why???..does it say i want to buy NEW/NOS bikes???...NO..my ad says used in any condition....i try to help everyone i meet, and surely do appreciate it when i can get my favorite bikes cheap.....if all you are after is money, then dont talk to me,and dont post anything ABOUT me..you Obviously dont know me....i am after the bikes....give to the needy, not the greedy.......and dont condemn me for looking for good cheap redlines......do you think i am rich???...well if i was,i sure would be buying all the NOS redline stuff i can find...but,i`m not....i run a recycled shop...that means i buy USED bikes and buy, sell, and trade USED bikes.....so,OF Course i want them cheap...now,go look in the mirror...are YOU greedy or needy???.....i have been in business for two years now,and still have yet to MAKE real money....thats because i`m all about the bikes....NOT the money...just ask some of my customers....so thanx for insulting me.....thanx for showing people that all you care about is the money........{meanwhile,if ANYONE else wants their old Redline to go to a GOOD home.....and doesnt want a small fortune for it,then drop me a line}.....and as far as my 88 goes Tom,i wanted it for the 990 mounts, but thanx for talking trash anyways......i RIDE my bikes

to everyone posted by Rob on 2/1/2001 at 1:41:58 PM
also, lets clear this up too....when i get an e-mail,asking me if i want to buy a Redline..9-times out of 10,there is no price given.....why???..because they want as much as possible for their bike..thats okay, and i can understand the needing of the money.....now ,when i dont get ANY pictures, what do you expect me to offer???....of course i start my offers low.....thats just common sense...but,there seems to be a feeling like im ripping you off..nothing could be further from the truth ....some people get upset because i offer lowball prices...HELLO!!..thats AN OFFER,NOT an insult...all you have to do is say what you want FROM THE START.....i want to buy redline bikes...i dont want to pay outragous prices..if i cant even SEE the bike before i buy, what do you expect??...if you want to sell a redline, please include the PRICE....that way,we can avoid situations like Mr Tom up there.....i am an honest guy who just wants Redlines...is that so hard to understand???

RE:a special message for Tom posted by romero chavez on 2/1/2001 at 1:43:36 PM
Rob,

Who cares is someone talks trash. That is all that it is, trash from some jealous idiot. In my opinion, ANY RL 20 II is hard to find, and you should post a link to the pictures of your Redline(s). They are all beautiful bikes. Just out of curiousity, do the 88 RL 20 II's have a five inch headtube like the old ones? Keep doin what you are doin, and I can tell that you won't let any BS bother you...Peace

thanx for the kind words..actually,it did bother me what Tom said...boy did he get under my skin....what a jerk.....i practically bend over backwards for everyone i deal with, and i get posts like this....makes me feel real good, like i cant win for trying.......oh well!! (takes a deep breath),and yes ,the rl-20 i have is an Early 88 model...how early??...well,it has a 1987 seriall number!!??....and yes,it is also a super long headtube.....and yes,i agree...so far i have had a total of three people who have offered me redlines....all three are heavily used..and have scratches chips etc..these are EXACTLY what im looking for,but without the RARE price....lets be realistic here...if your bikes a beater, how much is it Really worth???...i am always willing to pay a Fair price for the redlines...not negotiate a million dollar ransom.....i FEEL that the 88 is the best redline for ME,because of the 990 mounts...thats an awesome feature...you can put real brakes on that frame....i am still looking for a used rl-22 because i dont want to tear up my newest NOS frame...sorry Tom,got it CHEAP.....and for the rest of the greedies,i bought that bike for 200...so,next time you want 200 for your old beater redline, dont E-mail me,and dont talk trash like your bike is made out of gold or such.....they were made out of the same chromoly as the other bikes......again,this is not intended to the collectors who buy/sell NOS stuff...my hat is off to you guys, and am glad that someone is saving these bikes..it is very hard to find really good NOS stuff..so i respect you guys that much more...i am just a little guy looking for a good deal....Robs-Recycled-Rides

Lots of shady critters out there ya know! Anyway I got my hands on some type of 70's? Bike yesterday. It has a strang fork set up it almost looks as if it could be a set of motorcycle forks but they have no suspension. It has a curved bottom fram tube and another set of top tube bars that bend down and connect with the down tube the second set of bars start from the seatpost frame tube. anyone know what the heck this is?

hey man, dont ever stop riding because of one bad deal....its just a bike, and you can always go get another one....i have been on e-bay for over a year now,and have bought plenty of lemons!!!...you know the kind i mean....the pictures always about 5 feet away....thereby making you THINK the bikes in good shape..you bid, you drool, sometimes you even e-mail for details....they of course tell you its a genuine beauty....till you actually GET the bike, and realize you have been had again....it happens to all of us man.....and the SHIPPING...hehehehehehe...man the shipping is a major joke......some of these guys will charge you as much as they can,for "packing and handling" fees....then,you get the bike--thrown in a box!!!......with no packing,AND this is the best part--the COST of the shipping is ON the shipping label....so,that bike that costs you 40 to ship,is really shipping for about 22......just look at the shipping label...you will see......dont get me wrong!! there are some OUTSTANDING guys selling stuff on E-Bay........just remember,if the pictures fuzzy--e-mail and ASK!!...E-Bay will usually do something about it if the seller out and out lies to you and you HAVE e-mailed asking for details.....or just rips you off period.....ive had that happen a few times.....

Schwinn, Standard, Kink, Dirt Brothers, S&M, GT and countless other companies make frames in the good old US of A that are 500 times better than anything made in the glory days of the '80s. I loved my Trick Star, but I would never ride it today. Don't judge an entire era of bikes by one bad example, especially a Dyno VFR.

RE:American Made posted by Rob on 1/30/2001 at 1:03:01 PM
if you are actually riding your oldschool bike(gasp!),then you have the best of both worlds in todays bike market.......todays frames are super heavy, but are very strong too.....the parts being made today are what we needed 20 years ago.....strong wheels, strong cranks, and real brakes.......so,you take your oldschool real frame===(4130-but Lite!),add newschool parts and your bike is bulletproof.....the bike doesnt weigh a ton like todays bikes, and is enjoyable to ride...thats about my only complaint with todays bikes--they are so heavy..of course this approach is not for the "pure" collectors, who prefer their bikes totally original..my hat is off to you gentlemen..its hard enough to buy bikes in decent shape, much less New/NOS...most of my bikes are modified.....the ones i buy to resell, usually dont have all the original parts anyways.......well,i will get to my point--to the gentleman who complained about taiwan bicycles, and cheap Dynos-you cannot compare a toyrus,Kmart, walmart bike to a real bike...those bikes complete 100-175...todays Real bikes usually start at 300 for a decent bike, and go past a 1000 for the full works.....if you think about that, then you can see how an oldschool frame setup with real parts can be Less expensive than a new bike from the shop.........just my personal point of view........cheers,Rob

RE:RE:American Made posted by Rob on 1/30/2001 at 1:22:20 PM
also, your statement about building bike frames....thats good, but have you actually priced this out???....you need tube benders, welding equipment, measuring equipment, jigs to hold the frames as you build, someone to take the frames to to get chromolyed.....someone to powder coat or paint the frames...and somewhere to work.....then you have material costs--ie=Electricity,tubes and metals to work with, welding rods ,grinding wheels, buffers, and then you come to the point where you actually sell the frames.....how much can you charge????..and Actually make money??.you will be competing in an intense market.....advertising alone is unbelievably expensive.....so,basically,what im saying here is,unless you are VERY rich,i wouldnt go into business making frames...this was not intended as an insult either, just my observations...instead,start cruising the local dumps, junkyards and flea markets...buy those oldschool bikes and sell them....save the oldschool bikes...they are fading fast..there is always some guy out there like me,looking for a good oldschool bike..AND you might even make some money.........sincerely yours,Rob
