AGE / VALUE:   Mongose???? posted by: kev hill on 12/9/2002 at 12:56:59 PM
Hi everybody - a few questions for all of you mongoose experts out there. I recently picked up a black painted chrome moly 'goose out of a skip (trash), over here in the UK. Does anybody know what date/model it is? It has Araya alloy rims on shimano hubs, dia compe rim brakes, a steel and alloy handlebar clamp (a 'gold' clamp?) and a black vinyl quilted seat. Also it has tubular forks, not ashtabula blade forks. So far, I have got a NOS padset for it, and some other bits and pieces, but what i really need is a set of forks - if anybody out there has a set, then plese let me know. Thanks, and good luck to everybody else out there who is up to their armpits in a bike project.

I need some help. I got my son a mid 94-98 Mongoose supergoose pro Chromally. He wont believe it has worth now that Mongoose can be bought at wal-mart. What is tis bike typically worth. The bike is in excellent condition. So who's right my son saying it has no worth or me saying it has tripple digit value (about $200 to $400) Please let me know thx.

RE:AGE / VALUE:   What is it worth? posted by mike on 12/9/2002 at 8:04:30 AM
'94 to '98? personally, i'd say little to no value. there is just too much of it still around. the really collectable years for most mongoose stuff is about '76 through '83 or so. some here may disagree with me on this, but, again, this is just my personal opinion. i think your son is mostly right on this, sorry.

Does the bike have sealed hubs,3 piece cromo cranks or any other high end stuff? If so it might be worth $100.00 or more? Not collectible but if it is high quality with good components there is some value.Hope this helps ;).

FOR SALE:   '77 ashtabula frame posted by: mike on 12/3/2002 at 10:01:05 AM
i have an original ashtabula frame only. dated 5-77. this one needs some serious work. frame is slightly bent and has two cracks. would need to be straightened, rewelded, and powdercoated. but would be an extremely rare and valueable piece when done. i wanted to keep it myself, but am in need of too many other parts. this one is for sale and/or trade.
i need early '80's gold anodized parts, for an '81 supergoose, including decals. also looking for most any other early mongoose and related items; blue max; roger decoster; jag; and so on.
so if your interested in this type of project, please let me know. if i restore this frame myself, it WONT be available again!! thanks for the space.

New to the old bmx scene but I just got a pink hutch at a rummage sale was wondering how much it is worth?Has H on neck, pedals say HUTCH,cranks are thick 3pc. with hutch stamped on both sides, hubs say HUTCH.The frame has a sticker that says HUTCH a few times on the front.Looks like a racing bike no standers or anything.I only paid $25.00 for it.Might sell it if I get a good offer?

Can't people see that this idiot is craving attention? He never found a pink Hutch with Hutch cranks at a rummage sale for $25, and ANYONE that reads these posts would be foolish to send this person any money. Robert is not his real name, and he doesn't even leave an e-mail address. Don't fall for a scam like this! 'Robert' is lonely and looking for attention on this website. Don't give him the time of day!

Sounds like a Hollywood. If all tricked out, $500 is a lowball offer. How about giving the man the "real" value,
like $1000 on up! ;)

RE:RE:RE:RE:AGE / VALUE:   Old hutch bike posted by Jim on 12/5/2002 at 8:40:56 AM
How about the value is objective?Should he give the person he bought it from $1000.00?Are you just angry because I am getting a good deal?It seems as though we are both happy with the deal and that is all that really matters! An object is worth only what somebody is willing to pay for it!Besides the bike is never going to be sold again as it is a gift for a close friend (minus the cranks)!

Do you guys have a life? Why must you bash others?Does it help your self esteem?I have tons of references available and am a trusted buyer & seller! The ebay fiasco has nothing to do with any unethical dealings! It just pisses me off when others try ruining somebody elses reputation! It's not my fault that the seller accepted my offer. Are you just angry because you didn't have the brains to make an offer? If I was trying to rip anybody off it seems that spending $500.00 on a bike would be a pretty moronic way to go about it!Man you guys really need to grow up and get your own lives!Another thing what is wrong with selling sports cards for a living? Are you just jealous because you probably work for somebody else for crappy pay?I really don't get the point of your response except jealousy or maybe just plain ignorance? Why don't you just mind your own business unless you have something constructive to say?I have never done anything harmful to you so what is your problem?By the way check out my Ebay feedback as it is GREAT!!!I have been dealing with vintage BMX bikes since 1996 with no problems! At least I post my email address not like some cowards!

If the pink Hutch was real, this Jim dude got a good deal. No need to be upset. As far as buying and selling sports cards for a living, I guess thats fine. Most people just aspire to have a more meaningful career and life. I know plenty of people that didn't go to college, but are happy doing what they want to do. Just because this dude isn't an attorney or some other professional, he probably makes a "decent" living himself. However, it wouldn't be my choice of work (no $$$, no benefits, no health insurance, no 401K, no retirement, no travel, etc.). To each his own.

Actually I travel quite often.I have lived in Japan,Korea,Hawaii,California,New York,South Carolina,Illinois,Texas,Arizona and Wisconsin and have been to Thailand,Canada,Mexico,Saudi Arabia and about 30 other states.Served my country during the gulf war and have a college degree.I am a disabled veteran and a member of my local Jaycees.I chose to sell sportscards and other related items because it gives me the freedom to travel without being tied down.I may only make $40,000.00 a year but with my wifes income we actually live very well!I could easily go get a normal job but have no desire to work for anybody else!I have free medical insurance from the VA and am working on purchasing rental properties with my brother in law.Well this is likely more than anybody cares to hear about me but it is my story and I don't like being judged by others until they walk a mile in my shoes!

Well there you have it folks...a true response indeed Jim.I"m happy that u got the Hollywood...its a GREAT deal and a steal for $500!!!Sounds to me like others are merely jealous because u were quicker to act on the Hollywood then they are....they're words a product of their obvious jealousy...Peace y'all.

PS. I guess my previous posting had one too many profane words in it...which explains why it has been taken out since i last checked in..no sweat!

Bloody hell , what a joke its only a old hutch f and f and a few hard to find items , if you all want a hutch hollywood so bad go and buy one, dont tell me you cant find one as i know of 1 web site that has one NOS ( skatepool.com ) I dont understand what old school bmxs have to do with peoples jobs or there way of life as far as i am concerned its about reliving your youth and having fun but hey I am from the uk and maybe missing something.PS if i found a hutch for little money i would be well pleased and if like me you found a pk in a skip ( loop tail ) and own a 84 quad nos and a Raleigh aero pro ( uk model) i would want people to be pleased not jelous as its only this kind of thing keeping the scene alive, you monkeys

cool find...no doubt i thought i noticed on another old school site that you went bankrupt? whats the story with that? not cool to question, as i've been there before i'm sure you are successful in life, but whats really happenin with the whole bankruptcy thing and when are we going to see pictures of the pink hutch? i'm kinda wondering if you really got it....

The whole bankruptcy thing was gone over before on Vintagebmx.com.Basically my wife went on a mad spending spree and managed to not pay the rent for a couple of months. That combined with prior hospital and other bills led us to decide to declare bankruptcy. So now I am trying to re-establish my credit and get my life straight!I contacted Ebay and they have reinstated my account (thank goodness)!!!Now we must be sure not to make the same foolish mistakes with our finances! As for the Hollywood I am still waiting on the pics?Who know's maybe the guy changed his mind due to all of the negative comments and stuff?I wish that we could all just get along ;)!!!!I would never try to ruin anybody elses dealings and expect the same courtesy!Jim

It seems more likely that the item does not exist. If he felt he could have gotten more money, it would have been on Ebay. I think Jim got his chain yanked. It is unfortunate that he told everyone his personal
business when it really is no one's business.

if the cranks are as you described they might be aerospeeds.if they are they could be worth as much as 1500.00 by them selves.id hate to see you get ripped.youcan tell by two ways, first if the arms are six sided.also if the spindal is six sided.these are the rarest cranks out right now.the pedals alone in really good shape go for about 200 to 275 on ebay.send me some pics before you sell.

RE:RE:AGE / VALUE:   Old hutch bike posted by kuwahara king on 1/5/2003 at 11:16:01 PM
they are worth what some one will pay.not 1500 dollars.also they sucked one piece takagi cranks were way better.also jims buisness is not everyones its his own.when did old school bmx a fun hobby become a witch hunt.its people like that we all can do without.

Yo Wayne what are you on?HUTCH cranks don't sell for $1500.00 on ebay?Maybe $1200!The pedals don't go near what you said either unless they are NOS!Maybe you should check your facts before you spout off all of this information? Are you on some sort of medication?Maybe you need to be?
