MISC:   ???Schwinn Scrambler Competition Model??? posted by: Ragtops3 on 7/21/2002 at 7:59:40 PM
I recently acquired a Schwinn Scrambler that seems to have more muscle than the Scramblers I have had and seen in the past. This one is tagged as having a Chrome Molybdenum frame and the main tube decal says 'Scrambler Competition Model' rather than just 'Scrambler'. And the WELDS! They are beyond Schwinn beefy welds. They remind me of the old aluminum alloy Redline frame welds. It is a rather interesting Scrambler.

Anyone know anything about this Competition Model?? Is it a different line of Schwinn Scrambler or just a year/model I have not seen until now?? Thanks for your help!

Thanks Les! I thought this Scrambler was looking like it was on steroids. Do you have any access to original pictures? Mine currently has some mix & match components. Composite mag on front and s-2 on the rear.

If anyone has a picture of a Huffy Z2, please email it to me. My friend owned one of those in 1982 or so. I remember the commercials for those bikes-- man, they really made you want one!! I got a Huffy Pro-Thunder instead with Skyway mags on it.

FOR SALE:   Want to own my original condition VDC posted by: Eric D-J on 7/9/2002 at 7:21:18 PM
I am looking into seriously selling my VDC bike. It is in great condition and is almost as complete as when I got it. It has a laid back seat post, hutch bars, hutch hubs. It had araya 1 3/8" rims. One was damaged and I removed it and bought a black replacement but didn't get around to looking for the needed spokes. I believe I have the original cranks in the closet also. Original seat post clamp, front fors and head bearings are all still there. Its a great bike. Email me if interested so I can keep your name and send you the links for images and auction info when I get it out from the 12-13 years it has been stored away. You will need to put "VDC" in the email subject so that it goes to the proper email folder.

AGE / VALUE:   Old school frame posted by: Don on 7/8/2002 at 10:09:28 PM
Scored an old bmx frame this weekend. The only marking is a "G" with a circle around it. Marking is on both sides of rear drop out and horizontal brace upper rear, around tire. It's a 20 inch, hard tail, paint gone. Thinking it was a Gurney...maybe not. Anybody have any clues...
Thanks, Don

I was recently riding my bike down a old airport near my house when I saw a pile of older bikes laying there.I started going threw them and I found a ' Kuwahara Hopper ' I really don't know alot about it but I do know it does have all the origanol parts. What really shocked me was when I started pushing it home the blue anodized wheels were straight.Could anybody tell me how much it would be worth or even could I get any money out of it? I check this board ever 3 days so will get back to you.

MISC:   Mongoose frame ID posted by: Raf on 7/3/2002 at 12:20:46 PM
I found an old-ish frame that I assume is a mongoose, it's a dull chrome or mbe nickel plated. There are remnants of a mongoose foil sticker on the downtube ("competition racing frame"), and a couple of serial nos on the BB - CC1 and 407xxx. I don't think the forks that are with it are original, they have leading dropouts with four holes in them. I don't think it's anything special, but if it's an early 80's mongoose I'll be happy. Thx.

Sounds like a 1980 Mongoose to me ;) ! If you need help finding parts contact me ;-) ! Jim

RE:MISC:   GT IS SELLING OUT TO PACIFIC!!!!!!!!! posted by Jason on 7/8/2002 at 12:11:07 PM
That's old news brother. That happened a quite awhile ago. The last I heard Pacific was going to keep GT a "premium" brand, Schwinn was discontinued as are Powerlite and Robinson, and Dyno was either going to be killed too or mass marketed cheaply like Mongoose. This are just rumors though. I can't confirm any of this as truth. Pacific DID buy them out though.

RE:RE:MISC:   GT IS SELLING OUT TO PACIFIC!!!!!!!!! posted by mike on 7/10/2002 at 8:53:35 AM
these companies did not sell out. schwinn and gt combined hoping to reverse their mutual losses and failed. they were then both purchased by a holding company. this 'anonymous' company soon realized there was no more profit to be had with these two bike companies and soon closed the corporate doors on them. they were then sold to the highest bidder as a single lot (this was on the stock level and done somewhat privately). pacific was the highest bidder but far under what was being asked. a 10% premium was added and a deal was made, thus all gt and schwinn rights going to pacific. pacific has stated that the gt brand will continue as their high-end product. dyno will be moved to mass-market, and the others will be discontinued for now.
this is all according to the reps and has been going on over the last several years to get to this point. but dont expect the 90's era scwinn and gt bikes to jump in value because of this, there's still alot of it out there!
