SuperCycle! man this thing is a hoot! it's like a rollerskate bicycle centaur - seat, rear triangle with a small wheel, cranks, a rear brake
....
and a rollerskate truck on the front!

the brake lever is mounted under the horn of the saddle! logo says san francisco, small sticker `made in taiwan', looks circa 1982.

if anyone has / remembers the supercycle email me!

WANTED:   TORKER STICKERS posted by: Ron Man on 5/12/2003 at 3:48:59 PM
I have a question. I am looking for a set of Torker stickers for my bike. I know these are hard to find but have seen occasionally some reproductions of these stickers come up on e-bay from time to time. In particular, I am looking for the headtube sticker with the red wheel and torker mx written on it. Does anybody know where to get one of these, either NOS or the address of some company where it has already been custom made and is in the computer somewhere so someone can just print it out? Any information would be great, thankyou,
Ron

RE:AGE / VALUE:   How much are Pergrine cables worth posted by matt on 5/3/2003 at 10:32:03 PM
Hey "Ace",
They are Taiwan made junk and not worth anything. They are not even old school, but I'm sure you already knew that :-)
If you don't believe me, ebay the cables and post your results here. Old school BMX stops at 1985, so most Taiwan made old school freestyle stuff after 1985 isn't worth much at all, seriously!

Interesting, could it be argued that "old school" stops at 1988? Or, could it stop when bikes started using 990 mounts? I'm torn between the 2 because there was still lots of US made products after '85 and some decent overseas as well. Alas, I'm also a collector of twin top tube freestyle frames (mostly before 990 mounts, but had to expand into, bah!).

Best,
James.

1985 period! Old school BMX (and freestyle) stops after 1985. For reference, go to www.vbmx.com. That website is the biggest and the best, and the consensus (without a doubt) is 1985. That is the rule, and without other websites and a huge number of collectors to compare it to, the year 1985 is where it stops. Look in the museum section of vbmx.com and you will note that there are no bikes after 1985. There is a good reason for that :-)

Yup, gotta agree with Jim on the later bikes in the museum. They only classify the Haro Master with "bashguard" mid-school, and rightly so. Here it is for others to consider when discussing "freestyle bikes"; Old school ends with the 990 mounts. Once you did the mounts, you're not old school which is about 1987+ for most manufactures. If you disagree, I welcome all replies. Remember, I'm only comparing freestyle bikes.

Best,
James.

James, you can agree with Jim, but none of us set the rules. That other guy is very correct also. Problem is James that 99.99% of all Haros are made in Taiwan, which is not appealing to collectors. U.S. made Trickstars, Vector freestylers, 1984 Redline RL 20 Prostylers and 1985 Redline RL-20II's are worth some money. Restored (ie: re-painted and re-stickered) bikes are a joke and are considered "junk" by many. It has nothing to do with 990's as it does with the country of origin and quality of the freestyle bikes. I personally collect old BMX bikes from 1983-1985, but thats all I like. There is nothing worse in collecting (from my standpoint) than a re-painted and re-stickered bike. Lots of re-painted turds out there, so be aware!

I would certainly never buy a bike that had been restored. On the other hand, I have bikes that I have restored from junk. New paint and stickers look a million dollars on a restoration.. I like to do all the restoration myself. I wouldn't buy someone elses hard work, it has to be mine..
Cheers Max

That's the classic argument for collectors in every hobby: original vs. restored. Well, my hobby incorporates all origins of manufacturing (twin top tube frames), but finding originals is extremely difficult. To each his own.

old school freestyle stops either at 88 or when the centrepull mounts started showin up. Ive been riding old (new then) freestyle bikes since like 83. and around 88 is when things really started to change. (hubs, brakes, detanglers, bashguards ets..) shit really took a turn in 88.

RE:RE:RE:RE:AGE / VALUE:   How much are Pergrine cables worth posted by wtf? on 5/20/2003 at 1:56:29 AM
Wow, I can't understand why you say restored bikes are junk. If you found an 57 vette out in some guys pasture rusting away would you get it and just let it sit as it is? I give you that there is a certain beauty in a bike with its old battle scars but if you restore it its junk? I don't think so. Also, you can't say old school ends with cantis.....Cantis are not new. they were originally done in the late 70's. and yes, on bmx bikes. They didn't catch on until much later, of course. Also, if overseas bikes are junk then you might as well throw out all of your old Red Lines because they went overseas long before alot of others did. C'mon guys have some sense about it. A restored bike is awsome and while some prefer not to restore, no true collector would call a bike junk just because it has been restored.

Hey James:

Put some of your re-painted bikes with the in-correct sticker kits on eBay and see what they bring. You have no respect for things that are original. Build a bike with era correct and the non-cheapo parts and experience a REAL old school bike. I realize you are new to collecting freestyle bikes with twin top tubes, but you are hardly an expert:-) Next time, use your real email address and name, unless your testicles have been removed.

p.s. - post a link so we can see your anlun built Haro bikes and Taiwan built Redlines with junky parts. your version of old school starts at 1987-1988.

Hey Chris,

If I wanted to sell part of my newly found hobby, I bet I could command top dollar for my bikes. As far as my bikes, does original 3 piece Haro Team Master cranks, 1st generation Flight Cranks, Hutch Bear Traps, Shimano DX, KKT Lightning, Peregrine/Tuff 2's, Vector/VDC bars, ETC!.. count as cheapo parts????? I never claimed to be an expert, but I do know what's going on with my particular section of the hobby through my collection of old magazines, friends, other enthuasists... As far as my real name/email addy, it's all there and always has been there, rookie. My version of Old School freestyle starts with pre-990 mounts, mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, glancing over at my beautifully restored chrome Zeronine Freestyle with original decals, sweet! My have to go to the garage and sit on my original '85-86 Haro Master.

You, my friend, are trying to be a BMX elitist. Properly restored things are just as nice as originals, although originals have a certain allure about them. Having that said, I'm looking for a grade A Ozone frame/fork with Decals.

JAMES YOU ARE DIGGING YOURSELF INTO A DEEPER HOLE. NOT SURE WHAT HARO TEAM MASTER CRANKS ARE??? IF THEY ARE GROUP ONE CRANKS, THEY WERE MADE IN TAIWAN. I DOUBT YOU KNOW WHAT FIRST GENERATION REDLINE CRANKS ARE, AND I'LL BET YOURS HAVE PINCH BOLTS.

ONE OF THE FUNNIEST THINGS I'VE READ THIS WEEK HAS TO BE THE COMMENT ABOUT THE 57 VETTE. I'M SURE YOU MEAN WELL, BUT YOUR COMMENT MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE A MORON. PLEASE GET BACK TO ALL OF US WITH THE MATERIAL THAT THE BODY OF A 57 CORVETTE WAS MADE OF. FOR BONUS POINTS, SOME PARTS WOULD RUST. WHAT ARE THEY? LOL! A BETTER CHOICE IN YOUR CAR ANALOGY WOULD HAVE BEEN ANY OTHER CAR THAN A CORVETTE. TOO FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!!!ENJOY YOUR HARO'S. YOU SHOULD VISIT SKATEPOOL.COM. THEY WOULD HAVE ALL THE OLD HAROS YOU ARE LOOKING FOR.

You could always smoke a "menthol cigarrette" if you want to build a corvette in your lungs, but make sure you check the frame and read "snopes" afterwards. I'm going to check the stable to see if the horse is ok, it's getting one hell of a flogging. I. am. done. with. this. thread.

Boy, you guys are really lame on this site. Thanks for reminding why I haven't visited in a long time. I have worked in a body shop for the last 15 years. I can assure you I know exactly what will rust on a vette and I have seen them hauled in from pastures so if anything is funny it's you.
