AGE / VALUE:   How old is my Mongoose? posted by: Kerry on 4/17/2004 at 5:33:03 PM
How do you tell the age of an older Mongoose? The frame and fork are nickel plated and the stickers are prizmatic and read Team Mongoose. The bike has alloy bars and post with an old gold Mongoose neck.Grips also say Mongoose on them and so does the black seat and seatpost clamp.

Thanks for looking and please post your answers all here as I don't have an email address right now.

Oh yeah how much do you think the bike is worth? It is in very good condition.Almost looks like it is brand new!

Thanks.

Kerry

If you post your serial number which should be located on the bottom of the crank hanger I could most likely tell you what year your bike is from.

From your description it sounds like it is likely a Team Mongoose with the red or blue overcoat removed.Look all over for remnants of red or blue.Especially in any tight hard to reach spaces.Like between the front gussetts.

The bike is worth a few bucks depending on condition. It is basically the same frame as a Supergoose.

RE:AGE / VALUE: How old is my Mongoose? posted by Mark on 4/18/2004 at 8:48:13 PM
Can't be certain without the serial #, but it sounds like an early 80's Supergoose to me, especially if there's no sign of paint flecks or anything on it.

Look just behind the headtube where the upper-main tube joins it and see if there's a sticker there which says "All tubes Chrome Moly", as that's a pretty solid sign that it's a Supergoose, as I don't believe the Team models were all chromoly frames. Also, what kind of cranks does it have, 1 piece or 3?

In any case, post the serial and we'll likely be able to tell you what year and month it was assembled. Like GG said, it's probably worth a decent amount to the right people looking for that vintage bike.

RE:RE:AGE / VALUE: How old is my Mongoose? posted by GooseGuy on 4/19/2004 at 5:58:18 AM
Team Mongoose frames were all chrome Moly. But if that sticker is present and original there would be coloring underneath it if it were a Team model. If the serial # begins with a T the frame is all chrome Moly!Or if it has two extra holes in the brake bridge and a hole in the piece behind the bb shell it is likely a Super/Team Goose. For an example check out this auction on Ebay it shows the traits I am referencing.

just wondered what it was worth to the right buyer or if it was worth hanging onto...anyone got ideas?

your '85 haro master did not come with cw bars. you could however sell it for about $200.00 very cool frame though. you should look at some back issues of bmx plus and find it with original factory configuration.

AGE / VALUE:   Columbia BMX Pro Am Bicycle AGE? posted by: Lee on 4/11/2004 at 8:53:04 PM
I found what appears to be an older Columbia BMX Bicycle. It was made in USA and has the numbers (serial, I guess) 3 001 1217 (or maybe 3 0U1 1217) on the head tube. It is a chrome bike with red tires, seat, handlebar pads and crotchbar pad (which has "Pro Am" on it)If someone could tell me the approximate year I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance. What kind of handlebars on the pacific. Why so hard to find info on these on internet? Thanks.

You could probably throw the Huffy and Pacific back in the garbage ;) they are super common mass marketed mountain bike junk!

That Mongomery ward bike is a variant from the 1970's it was most likely made by Huffy for MW to sell,It has a little value but wont go for too much?Worth keeping though.IMHO.

MISC:   warning to all posted by: tony in texas on 3/27/2004 at 8:37:51 AM
beware of james pershing aka sportscardgold/hutchheaven/trickstarkid and what ever else he might go by.we traded frames some time ago.i got a freestyle quad angle from him.he failed to tell me it had been "fixed".he told me it was a factory fix.my curiosity got the best of me and i removed the "fix".it was cracked.if the company had fixed a cracked frame, they would be liable for any injuries.i doubt the company would risk that.i have no choice but to think he straight up lied to me.he may do the same to you.you've been warned.

RE:MISC: warning to all posted by Jim on 3/29/2004 at 8:07:30 AM
Was that the frame that almost all of the members of vintage bmx agreed was a factory fix?Yes I am sure it is.The frame was shown in detailed pics!!!Including ones that showed the area in question in full detail!!!!SE has a long history of repairing their own frames and reselling/sending them back for warranty coverage. This transaction happenned over 2 years ago and you didn't contact me for over 3 months to say the frame was damaged? If I was going to straight up lie I most likely would not have posted about the problem on vbmx and ask the opinions of the members there!Maybe you should try to tell the entire story!!!Not just your blatant lies?

Passing off damaged goods as the real McCoy does not suprise me. He is a chronic whiner when it comes to
talking about sour deals. He needs to stick with the
sportscards.

Wow you can tell who the real men are they post and are too chicken sh#t to use their real names and email addresses! Some real cowards to say the least! If you have a problem go post on vintagebmx.com or os-bmx.com where you have to register!Or just keep it to yourself!!!Of course that will never happen!!!You are sooo sad, can't even speak up like a real man!

Back to the first message in this thread.Tony if you remember correctly we both agreed that if the members at www.vintagebmx.com said it was a factory fix that the deal would be square. They did and now you want to post this BS?You really need to learn to live upto your word! The frame was fixed by SE Racing and that is a fact!

To the other idiot that is to big of a wuss to even post who he really is I already have a really great idea as to the persons identity as I have been contacted by a few people with your true identity so maybe you should just try to act like an adult and stop with the childish games?Go try selling your Hutch or something else constructive!

RE:RE:MISC: warning to all posted by DETAILER/KEVIN BURNS!! on 4/4/2004 at 3:53:10 PM
I sent many SE frames back to SE for repair and always recived a new frame. I never recived a frame where a tube that was cracked was welded around the tube.
The reweld would still be cracked under the weld. So why would someone remove the weld, This don't make sence to me. (Of corse it is still cracked).
SE would NOT be liable for a frame repaired. BIKE manufacters are not liable for any loss when the bike is used for racing/freestyle ect.ect.
The most importaint thing is that SE has a long history of quality frames and cracking. WHATS THE PROPLEM.

RE:RE:RE:MISC: warning to all posted by Jim on 4/4/2004 at 9:00:27 PM
The tube wasn't welded around the crack.A replacement plate was welded onto the top tube junction where quads usually crack. The question was posted on vbmx a while back and alot of people submitted pics of the exact same fix!It is very common and SE did all the mods.A local shop has a frame for sale that has the same mod as well.

I guess that some people just can't admit it when they are wrong even when overwhelming evedince is shown?

Jim, I am on your side. I can't under stand why some one would take apart a fix/weld.
I must of been thinking of another frame.
Could you send me a pic of the repair. As I would love to see and learn what SE does to the QUAD for repair. Quads where not popular in CHICAGO in the 80's but the P.ERRY K.RAMERS where, so I have little knowledge on the QUADS.

WHY YOU HAVING TO HATE ON PEOPLE BY CALLING OUT SOMEONE ON VINTAGE, OS-BMX AND NOW BMXTREME? LIKE YOUR REP IS NOT SOILED ALREADY. WITH EACH TIME SOMETHING GOES AWRY, YOU NEED TO LET EVERYONE KNOW. WHO REALLY CARES?

TAKE SOME ANXIETY MEDICATION OR SOMETHING.

RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:RE:MISC: warning to all posted by Jim on 4/6/2004 at 1:09:29 AM
My rep is soiled because of losers like you that post BS and never use their real name or email addresses! If you notice I am attacked here but not on forums where you must register and use your real name.Oh yeah I was attacked there once for buying something another person wanted.Boy what a crime! That person spread rumors that i was a rip-off because I got something on Ebay they wanted.Never had any problems dealing with me personally but was very spiteful and vindictive!

It is not HATE when you post the truth about somebody doing dirty dealings. It is hate when you make up BS and post where you can hide your identity!!!Wow,that sounds just like you! What are you jealous because I have alot of cool bike stuff and you are a poser?Maybe you should get a clue or grow a pair?Be a man and back-up what you say!!!Don't hide like the little wuss you really seem to be!

Why wouldn't it surprise you that I was passing damaged goods as the real McCoy?If you can post some examples of this do it!Otherwise just shut up already!Oh yeah by the way maybe you could post it on vbmx or os-bmx and use your real name!Oh but a little coward like you probably doesn't have the guts to do that!If you check my so-called whining posts they are the result of me buying items that were grossly mis-represented and I tried to work out the problems with the involved parties to no avail!I was not the one burning people so maybe you should at least know what you are talking about in the future?

first off, jim, there was no agreement to get other's opinions.it was through your "research" you found that to be a common fix from se.and only after neglecting to mention the fix until i received the frame.secondly, though i should have used better judgement, those detailed pics were actualy one pic of another f/f so i would see what it looked like and a second pic(which i still have a copy of)of the frame leaning against a wall with the top tube pad on it.anyone who has seen a quad with the top tube pad on knows it covers where the "fix" is.i take my fault in not using better judgement(that's what happens when you trust someone you don't know),but my dealing with you was a real learning experience.p.s.....jim,if you ever make it to texas,i'd love to show you some southern hospitality

RE:RE:MISC: warning to all posted by Jim on 4/14/2004 at 6:41:49 AM
Don't neglect to add that I held another NOS yellow quad frame & fork that I was going to send you for over 4 months waiting for you to return the one in question! But you never returned it?So in the end it comes down to you not wanting to return the factory fixed one to receive the NOS one,and you did agree that if the consensus from vbmx was factory repair that the deal would be square! As for your southern hospitality maybe your mouth shouldn't right checks your body can't cash!
