MISC:   Whereabouts of '72 titanium Stingray posted by: Joseph W. Morris, D.D.S. on 4/25/2004 at 5:34:54 AM
Does anyone know where this custom pre "Old School" bike ended up? It was built for a kid in Bentwood CA back in the early 70's by his dad who made titanium motorcycle frames for CZ et al. Brentwood is a part of LA with enough wealth to make this possible even back then. It was modeled after a little chick with curves and all (and some extra support bars!) but was stolen in 1973 and that was the last I heard of it. I say pre Old School because in those days West LA Bike was still telling us not to "jump" our bikes and there was virtually no such thing as organized racing... at least not with any grown-ups around! Mostly we just pretended we were motocross stars. Thanks for any help.

can anyone tell me about the era of kuahara's inclusion of the japanese flag emblem in their logo?i'm trying to figure out make and model of a newly aquired bmx bike, and i only remember their brief mtn bike stuff.-would like to know so as to put a face on this bike mbb

RE:AGE / VALUE:   kuwahara posted by vince on 4/28/2004 at 2:15:02 PM
I don't remember the Japanese flag, however in the mid 80's Kuwahara made one of my alltime favorite BMX bikes the Kuwahara Magician. It wasn't extremely popular but I loved the setup on that bike and it came in awesome colors.

By the way, I believe that the bike that Elliot road in the movie ET was a Kuwahara and that the made a special edition for that movie. I bet that bike would be worth some dough.

Old school Factory Kuwahara tribute bike eh? The mid 1970's through mid-1980's are the era that you are looking for, with the "rising sun" Flag of Japan posted above the "Factory Kuwahara" head tube sticker badging. If you need anymore info. or would like to see pictures e-mail.

Laterz,

JJ

I wish I could get my Kuwahara Laserlite 3000 back. I raced on the amatuer circuit with it in the early/mid eighties (1983/84??). Purchased new it was around $350.00. ($339.99+tx). If my memory serves me right. What a bike. All 4130 chromo. and chro-plated. Had the red Jap flag on head tube and frame. Nothing but the bare essentials, but top quality bare essentials! It was the lightest bike I ever raced. I think it was the lightest bike of that time. The Redline(something) was close in weight. Damn I want it back! Just to have it bring back memories. GOD I LOVED THAT BIKE!! Anyone know of any pics of it that I can find on the net?
