Wednesday March 2nd on PBS at 8pm Eastern in Boston.

We were there all day back in September for filming. VVVintage Vintage Bicycles covered cycles from the 1930s to the 1960s. We're not sure what will air. It may be a few seconds or it may be a few minutes.

For this episode of 'Antiques Roadshow, FYI' their web site says: "Clay gets a thorough schooling in the finer points of bicycle collecting".

Here's a link to the 'Antiques Roadshow, FYI' site. You can find your local times and channels in the US.

Took the first ride(just around the block) on the 1936 E.F.Russ racing tandem.First time on a tandem and first time on a bike for the wife! She liked it and I'm hooked too. This is a double gents model so I have the rear saddle very low,and using 26" tires. This project came with original hubs but they needed a lot of work so for now it has Arai drums F&R.Three speed block with twin wire cyclo derailer.Frame was built using Chater Lea lugs,BB,and dropouts.I used Williams cranks and rings.Painted the frame a dark matelic green over black primer/to save cost I also painted the chrome black in the british all-weather style.alum GB drops on front, north roads alum on rear.Lloyds tranfers---sam PS E.F.Russ was from London.

Tandem roadster, light roadster, Tandem Sports?
Not sure what to call it.
I've never seen one but there's a lot I don't know.

Looks like Raleigh pattern forks but take a close look at them---are the tops "D" shaped?----sam

This is a fascinating machine... firstly... rod brakes on a TANDEM? Definitely a flatland machine... secondly, I find it interesting that the shift lever is on the rear handlebars... Would make for interesting shifting dynamics if you're riding it solo, eh?

Nice machine nonetheless... it would be awesome to own that one.

It looks like a Dunelt fork to me.

I think its Dutch looking at the handle bars. Those forks do not look like Raleigh, they are definately square or 'D' shaped. The mudguards also look continental. Still, its a very good tandem though, just right for flatland riding.

From Sheldon's website:

-Dunelt
Dunelt was a second rank brand. Many Dunelts feature a fork similar to the Raleigh dimpled fork, only with a flattened top.

Guess that answers this question!

Take care,

I have a Raleigh-built Rudge with a similar fork. There was an English tandem on Ebay several years ago like this. It had 28" wheels (I think this does, too. I'll report what the seller tells me.) but it had drum brakes (Sturmey AB in rear) operated by rods. Image the terror of trying to stop this baby in the rain with two people aboard!

Does anyone know if the Dunelt forks were used on Raleigh built Dunelts, perhaps only the early ones before they dumbed down all the other brands, or are the flat top dunelt forks unique to Birmingham built bikes?

I have worked on two bikes with the D-style forks. One was a '69 Dunelt and the other a '64 Phillips. Perhaps the fork style was simply Raleigh's B-grade fork in the '60s.

Too bad the tandem was repainted. I'd love to see the headbadge as well as the transfers.

From the seller: "I'm selling it cause I'd like to put the money into a newer bicycle."

What confounded rubbishd the man has said!

Oh well, I wish him luck on his new "21 speed MTB (or 'Cross') Tandem".

Seller sez the tyres are 28 x 1 1/2. She could not find a date code on the hub and the head badge and other markings are gone.
