WANTED:   BB fixed cup posted by: Dave on 10/24/2001 at 3:40:24 AM
I want to replace the bottom bracket fixed cup on my Fuji S-10S. Sugino cranks. No manufacturer name on bb parts. What suppliers currently supply such parts? I would also consider replacing the entire bb, but I don't want to use an inexpensive sealed cartridge type assembly, unless absolutely necessary. Spindle length is 129 mm. I measured carefully and it doesn't seem to be 127 mm, which is what my local bike shop assured me it would be.

Thanks, in advance.

Dave

In all seriousness Dave, your local bicycle shop unless one or both of these conditions exsist... He doesn't have it and can't/won't order it for you --OR-- He's a complete and total A**hole.

I've always been of the opinion of supporting those who support me. Keep trying till you find one localy, who knows it might mean the the difference between Regular & SuperSize on his kids Fries tonight.

In the wind,
Stacey

Try Grant at Rivendell Bicycle Works. Ask him for ideas where you might find this if you strike out. Ask everyone this question. I had a shop look in" Bike- A- Log" and some older hard to find parts are listed there and this is a starting point to order things. I saw it someplace on the net but never did it myself. Another shop could order it for you. Call around and ask to speak to the mechanics because the counter guy may not know what you are talking about.

Bicycle does not and probably never had tank with horn, also I doubt there ever was a basket or a rear rack. The unit is heavy and extremely well built. Please advise if you want photos. The handle bars sweep around like a prewar Elgin I once had! Thanks! Paul

Hate to rain on your parade, Earl, but your bike is worth about what you paid for it. Schwinns bring big bucks, and so do some Columbias, and really rare classics. Murrays have always been second or third tier-even the deluxe ones.
They just aren't as well made, and therefore aren't considered desirable. If you get lucky, you might run into someone who had one just like it in his youth, and is willing to pay a premium to recapture a childhood memory or desire. Most people who owned Murrays as kids are paying big bucks for Schwinns, because that's the one they really wanted at the time.

An old friend of mine paid a fortune, after seeking it for a year, for a nice '65 Chevy 4-door hardtop. It seems that his Dad had bought a 4-door sedan that year, after ignoring his son's pleas for the hardtop. After he got one, he was finally satisfied. Then he died.
