The only other popular old bike forum is at schwinn.com, but there is a lot of name calling, swearing and "he said" "she said" baloney there.

WANTED:   Where can I find Schwinn tires ????? posted by: Lars Schulze on 11/21/2001 at 7:14:53 PM
Hello everyone. I have a '67 Schwinn Breeze (woman's) and a '69 Schwinn Collegiate (mens). The tires are shot on both bikes. I'm looking for 4 Schwinn Straight Side Sports Touring Nylon whitewall tires size 26 X 1 3/8 for S-5 or S-6 Schwinn Tubular rims. Any idea where I can find them? Does any after-market manufacturer make reasonable substitutes? I live in Guilford, CT. Thanks for your help.

The originals, especially the white walls are VERY hard to find. I occasionally see them on Ebay and they sell high (whitewalls very high) if they are NOS or in very good condition.

There is a guy on Ebay who calls himself Krazy Ken who is currently selling some Kenda replacements. I think they are gumwalls. He wants $20/pair and includes the tubes.

Remember, for the Schwinn rims you want the 597mm bead diameter not the more commonly available 590mm.

I have these tires as well. They are older remakes and are not original Schwinn tires. They have a very similar tread to the original and are blackwall. Email me at bikeyard@mindspring.com if you need some. Thanks Jim

I have a '77 yellow womans 3 speed Breeze with the tires you are looking for but they are blackwalls. One tire has a small crack in the sidewall. If you're interested in the tires or the whole bike let me know. The bike is in great condition.

MISC:   possible worth? Colson boys is 5 condition posted by: bob hunt on 11/20/2001 at 11:01:49 PM
I found a old colson bike coaster brake one speed in the forest here in Montana. Tires flat rusty no chain and you can tell where it had old registration stickers on the rear fender. Today it is a focul point of our rockgarden. Has it some value? Should I try and restore? Where would I get parts etc? thanks for any input....HUNT

Depends on the model. Colson made some beautiful bikes in their day. You can find photos of some models at Nostalgic.net in the database. Parts show up on Ebay sometimes.

MISC:   Ebay to supplu sales data to IRS Jan. 1 posted by: TaxMan on 11/19/2001 at 3:41:53 PM
While at a state tax seminar, I learned that Ebay will begin saving sales data for the IRS on auctions ending 01-01-02. Anyone who sells more than $400 woth of merchandise will receive a 199 form for Tax Year 2002. Those people will have to supply a Taxpayer ID or SSN to Ebay to continue listing items.

Income from sales of bike stuff is the same as salary earnings or distribuitons from your 401(k). The gov't has a long reach, but fair is fair.

that'll go over like a lead balloon

Other Ebay failings:

1) All of the ActiveX software controls they are using

2) Way more complicated screens when trying to post an item. They are forcing their own money making options on you.

3) Crazy rules about not being able to link to anything but pictures of your items.

4) They keep a shorter history of sales. It used to be you could search lots of completed auctions to get an idea of bike prices but now they only keep a short history.

They're as bad as Microsoft.
