WANTED:   1930 - 40's bike wanted posted by: Wayne Woodward on 1/17/2001 at 3:16:58 AM
I am wanting an old mens bicycle from around the 1930 - 40's. I have very limited knowledge on same and no idea of particular brands. I would be grateful to receive any advice on same, approx. prices, pictures and suggested places of purchase in Australia. Thank you.

   RE:WANTED:   1930 - 40's bike wanted posted by JOEL on 1/17/2001 at 8:37:48 AM
There's a bike museum in Australia that has a website (sorry, don't have the URL). That might be a good place to start.
My advise would be to look around and find the bike you want, then find a seller willing to ship to you. There are LOTS of pictures of bikes on the web and you can get an idea of pricing by looking at EBAY auctions.

The name of the museum is Canberra bicycle Museum and they are listed on the links here on oldroads,Check them out lots of neet stuff!!--sam

I would post a few "OLD BIKES WANTED ... CASH PAID" notes on bulletin boards in grocery stores and coin-operated laundries. You'll probably get more than one call and it won't cost you a fortune, either.

FOR SALE:   Bendix two speed kickback parts posted by: Ray on 1/16/2001 at 6:05:55 AM
If you are restoring or just want to bring your two speed kickback hub back up to spec then I have a bunch of original NOS parts on ebay for them right now. You can find them by using my e-mail address as the lookup as it is the same as my ebay name. Also these all start with AB- which are the original Bendix part numbers so put AB- in the description lookup and you will get them all. There is a lot of parts for all three types of hubs red, yellow and blue. Full descriptions are inside the posts. Good luck.

WANTED:   Ludwig bicycle info posted by: Jim Hoetker on 1/15/2001 at 7:23:45 PM
I recently purchased a bike steering head logo plate. It's brand
new, but made in the '30s, I think. Name is 'LUDWIG',It's from
Cincinnati, has the address on it. '1621 Race St.'Etched brass,
paint filled in red, white and blue with a spinning propeller logo.
My question is , does anyone have any info on this company?
When where they around, when did they go out of business etc???
Thanks Jim Hoetker

that is also the old address for the ludwig percussion corporation. there name plates where made in brass up until the late fifties. did you purchase from a bike shop? if you are not certain that it is a bike badge, it may be a vintage drum badge. and if it is, it is most likely worth more than if it was a bike badge. vintage ludwig percussion instruments and parts fetch a nice price from collectors.
good luck, christian

Christian: thanks for the input, but now the question is,
where was this logo plate used? It fits the radius of a
steering head perfectly.
I got it from a guy at a car show here in Louisville. He had
a box of 100 badges, all in perfect (new) condition for $5.00
for the whole box, I gave him $1 for one of them.
The reasion I'm curious is that I'm from Cincinnati and I
never heard of the Ludwig Co. Thanks again, Jim H.
P.S. I mounted it on my grandson's razor type scooter, looks great.

I have found out that not all the parts are original, but the frame, handle bars, chain gaurd and tire rims are. Could anybody out there help me out with how much this bike is worth? Any replies are appreciated. Original color was coppertone, has been painted red. Chrome is in very good condition. Everything works. Photo on web site:
