MISC:   WHAT'S IT WORTH? posted by: Gene on 7/9/2001 at 5:43:18 PM
I have had a VISTA N.I.D.A. tandem bike put in my antique shop for sale on commission. I need to know what the bike is worth or at least what information I need to get to determine what it's worth. I've had several people wanting to buy it, but I don't know what price to put on it. There is some rust on the crome and the tires are flat, but I think that if I aired them up I could ride it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gene

Need more information:
Tire size, number of speeds, type of brakes, lights/horn/tank, etc.

RE:MISC:   WHAT'S IT WORTH? posted by Gene on 7/12/2001 at 10:41:34 AM
Cal, the VISTA DUO I have is a single speed bike. It has a coaster brake in the back and caliper brakes in the front. The tires are 26 X 1.75. There is a double center sproket and two chains. One from back wheel to center sprocket and one from the other center sproket to the front sproked. All three of those sprokets have 40 teeth each. the fenders are chromed and the frame and chain guard are bright green with "VISTA Duo" lettered on the chain guard in white. The tires are white sidewalls-Kelly Spring Field. "Super Stop" is in raised letters on the tires. There is a metal stand that has a little wooden roller in it that the bike is sitting in. The back tire contacts the wooden roller so the bike can be riden as an exercise bike. I may be able to find out how old it is. I will have to contact the folks I got it from and see if they can remember when they bought it.

MISC:   Columbia 1962 Womens posted by: Janice on 7/9/2001 at 8:46:25 AM
I just received a 1962 bike and need help to find out what it originally looked like. It has been painted over in latex paint and it appears to have been white with red stripping. Any suggestions on value as to whether it is worth restoring and any pictures of what this looked like would be appreciated. Thanks

RE:MISC:   Columbia 1962 Womens posted by Ken O. on 7/9/2001 at 12:34:57 PM
There are pictures of Columbias of that era in the picture database, and YES, it is valuable.

Don't do a full-blown restoration - it's not worth the cost, but clean it up as best you can, then ride it!!

I'm trying to find a set of these older style brakes. They're the black ones, preferably without the "booster". I'm sure someone has them lying in a shop somewhere. If you've seen some, LET ME KNOW. Thank you.

I could even use some WTB or Suntour Roller Cam brakes.

FOR SALE:   Wanted: Tank and Batwing Headlight for 1950 J.C. Higgins posted by: T. Stahl on 7/7/2001 at 7:04:07 PM
I have been told that my bike is a 1950 1/2 J.C. Higgins Deluxe and that it should have the painted porthole type of tank. Also a painted batwing headlight (mounts to fender in a horizontal fashion) If anyone has a source for these parts, please let me know. Also, I am missing one half of one pedal (one rubber block and the bolt/nut.) Thanks in advance.

I have one for sale on Ebay. It is a handle bar mount but can be converted if you have the bracket for the fender. I also have other JC Higgins parts (no tanks).
