MISC:   How much should I advertise it for? posted by: Rachel on 1/1/2002 at 3:09:57 PM
I have got a Rudge bicycle (about early 1950s) and I want to sell it. How much is it worth?

RE:MISC:   How much should I advertise it for? posted by Kevin on 1/1/2002 at 3:49:32 PM
That depends on a lot of things, for instance: wheel size, men's or women's, rod brakes or cable brakes, original paint or repaint, overall condition, where the bike is located, and how badly a would-be buyer wants it.

It has the original paintwork, cable brakes and 23x1 38/8 size wheels. It is in fairly good condition (no rust) but does not have it's original handlebars. I am in the UK.

I've found a western flyer made in England with three grears, long wheel bases, big seat springs, and a luggage rack. It looks 50's to me. Could anyone give me a lead on what I've got?

RE:MISC:   old western flyer posted by sam on 1/1/2002 at 4:08:13 PM
Raleigh or Phillips bicycle.Check on the rear hub , it should be a sturmey/archer hub(if it,s a 3-speed) and will have a date stamped on it.If it's a single speed or not S/A will be harder to tell age.

WANTED:   Varoom Bicycle posted by: Ron on 12/31/2001 at 1:41:04 PM
Looking for info on a bicycle where Mattell Corp. teamed up with a bicycle company and made this "motorcylce-like" kid bike in the late 1960s. It had all the plastic molded engine look-alikes of a mtorcycle, key, and sounds....any info would be great.

RE:WANTED:   Varoom Bicycle posted by Vindicator on 12/31/2001 at 3:19:08 PM
LMAO!!! Try ebay... but make sure you have a THICK wallet! The accessory "motors" themselves go prety dear. I shudder to think what a complete bike would go for!

If my mom wasn't dead, I'd kill her. I had one as a kid and she wouldn't let me take it when we moved!

Comics, baseball cards, old bikes, that "annoying motorcycle" Oh the number of times this has happened! It's common and she would likely say "I didn't know, who would have guessed?"
I'm sorry to hear it but it could'a been worse. One guy on Antiques Roadshow had $50,000.00 worth of old, rare baseball cards but he made this (stupid) wooden display box and he glued( yes, he glued them) into it!! Bringing the value down to like 4 thousand for it all. I sat there, in front of the T.V. with my bowl of ice cream and my spoon and my frozen jaw hit the floor!
And I thought I've pulled some dumb stunts! Perhaps you drove her nuts making "that noise around the house" Then again it let her know where you were in the neighborhood and it was a great toy.Everybody(almost everybody) has a story like this.

Hi guys the reason (i believe) these varoom bikes are so rare is because they were made to be a toy not a bike very poorly made my best friend had one and it was junk in 6 months.Seen one on e bay 3 mos ago think it sold for about 3 hundred looked to be a 6 or 7 in the pics.

All kidding aside, you should post this info request on the "Old-School BMX" list. They could give you a much better idea of value. I'd love to have a set of those
Mongoose honeycomb mag wheels.
