WANTED:red ringed Bendix automatic posted by: George on 11/3/2003 at 1:48:27 AM
I have been having a problem finding a bearing that wore out of my Bendix 2=speed,bearing# F3291,it sits between the hub and the gear cluster housing.I would even be interested in a parts hub. I saw one on the links but it was already sold. I need one bearing.

RE:WANTED:red ringed Bendix automatic posted by dan on 11/6/2003 at 12:34:55 PM
if all you "need" is 1 bearing, itreally doesn't have to have it. I actually take bearing out sometimes because they were too packed with bearings The more bearing means the more surface area and friction. The forces can be supported easily with a few ball bearings missing. But if you insist go to any local graingers or old style hardware store. Bring an old ball bearing with you and they can match it up. Remember to repack it with grease if there is no grease nipple.

Yes all that will work unless the cage is damaged, and I do not leave any bearings out,not one ball.

MISC:Schwinn Classic Female Bike posted by: Melanie on 10/31/2003 at 2:52:59 PM
I have a female Schwinn, single speed, serial # FJ536685. I believe it is around a 1958 model but not sure. Mint condition and all original. Never ridden. Willing to sell but need to know its worth. Can anyone help direct me to a place to determine the worth? Already checked old roads but the # is not listed. Thanks much.

RE:MISC:Schwinn Classic Female Bike posted by Gordon on 11/1/2003 at 1:58:55 PM
Hi Melanie, I have a Swchwinn book with all the Schwinn serial number up to 1965 and that number does not fit. Can you tell me where on the bike the number is located and check the number a second time just to make sure it is correct? Also, does it say Schwinn on the badge on the front of the bike?

RE:RE:MISC:Schwinn Classic Female Bike posted by Melanie on 11/2/2003 at 4:40:07 PM
Yup Gordon, I double checked the number and sure enough it is the number. The Schwinn name is on the badge, seat and frame. It is a mystery. What else can I tell you? It is green and brakes via the pedals.

What makes you think it's a '58 model? Serial number looks like June(F) 1973(J) to me. It should be in the S/N list.

RE:RE:MISC:Schwinn Classic Female Bike posted by Melanie on 11/4/2003 at 2:48:07 AM
1958 was a guess based on the SN that I could find here on OLDROADS. There isn't a match to the #. Got any ideas?

RE: Serial Number posted by Eric Amlie on 11/4/2003 at 3:00:15 PM
It's there. You have to understand the system. The first letter signifies the month A=January, B=February, etc. "I" is not used to avoid confusion with the number "1". The second letter signifies the year. A=1965, B=1966 etc. Again, the letter "I" is not used. The rest of the numbers are just the sequential total for the month. Your bike looks to be June(F) 1973(J). The earlier serial numbers only had 5 numbers after the letters. Yours has 6 making it a later bike. Another identifier is the location of the serial number. If I'm right about the date, your serial number should be on front of the head tube near the bottom.

I was trying to find the worth of a Huffy Camaro, girls model bicycle, probably from the 60's.
Thanks

i had an Eldorado, the more Deluxe version ladies on Ebay for 2 weeks without a bid you tell me the value.

I have three girls musclebikes from the 60's (Sears Spyder,Huffy Blonde, Schwinn Lil Chik) and would be surprised if they have any real collector value. I'm leaning more towards parting them out cause the parts are probably worth more than the complete bikes.

RE:FOR SALE:Huffy Camaro posted by Jim on 11/1/2003 at 9:31:25 PM
Paul,
Sorry to tell you that the girl's middleweights of the 60's don't really have that great a value. If it is complete with a working tank/light, the carrier and an undamaged fender ornament, it still wouldn't bring much more than $100 (if that much). The only time someone really wants to pay more is if they are trying to get one to match an existing boys model they have. Girls bikes don't have the following that boys bikes do - too bad since the girls bikes are often in better shape.

I have a two-tone green ladies' Schwinn Spitfire with luggage rack, horntank, Delta Rocket Ray headlight, 26x2.125 front and rear tires, and spring-loaded front fork. Anybody know what year it is and/or any other information you can give me?

Have you checked the serial #? that will give you an indication of age.

There is a non-profit around the block from my house having a bike sale/opening party on Sat. Nov 8, 5pm-10pm at

Bike Out
2811 Pico Boulevard
Santa Monica, CA 90405

They aren't open yet, but have had a couple interesting musclebikes hanging in the window on and off for a couple weeks. Flyer says bikes from $50 to $500. Looks like they might have some interesting wares.

BTW, I'm not connected to the organization, just a neighbor.
