WANTED:   Bendix 2 Spd Shifter posted by: Tom on 1/21/2003 at 8:40:36 PM
Does anyone have a Bendix 2 speed shifter, cable and axle fulcrum that screws onto the rear axle. The hub is from around 1955. I have a nice hub but missing the rest. I have some 28 hole hubs for trade if interested even a 28 hole bendix with skip tooth, no multi speeds only singles.
Also did Schwinn use these 2 speed hubs on any of their bikes. I have never seen a vintage Schwinn bike in person, would love to have one in the 50's. I live in the frozen north in Canada and our bike shops never had these bikes.
Tom

I am unfamiliar with the Bendix two speed but am familiar with the New Departure 2 speed. I broke the bell crank which is needed to shift at the rear axle. An early 3 speed Shimano bellcrank fit with a monor "dressing" of the threads. I used a brand new machine bolt with a diagonal saw cut and used it as a tap to clean up the thread which was off ever so slightly. Benny's stores carries this bell crank, they are in SE MA and RI. Hope this solves your problem. Cables and shift lever may be cobbled from Shimano parts also available. None of this applies if you are doing an authentic restoration. sincerely, paul

That hub was known as the "Power Shift". It was offered on some of the early Schwinn middleweight bicycles. The parts you need often come up on eBay. I have several of these hubs but no desire to sell. I do have an extra axle toggle if you can't find one.

Ed, have you asked around at your local liquor stores? It hasn't been that many years- less than ten- since that Rolling Rock promotion put those bikes on display at package stores. Some dealer will have one in his basement. They were imports; shouldn't be rare or costly.

Ed,
Are you still interested in the Rolling Rock bicycle? I have a never been used Rolling Rock bike. Email if interested.

If it's a "ROADMASTER", I've "seen" them going for $100.-$150. of course depending on condition. Again, that's what I've seen them for. If I had one,I would keep it!
