FOR SALE:   1950's Schwinn Spitfire - men's 24" posted by: John Herold on 7/7/2003 at 7:10:00 AM
I have a black & cream, all original, 1950's men's Spitfire for sale. It's a beauty, almost flawless, westwind tires, with only two minor wear& tear flaws - some spider-like scratches on one side of one fender(like it was laid down), and two small parallel dents on top of the front fender. Otherwise, it's really superb. Is anyone interested in purchasing, or could you help me find the approximate value? Thanks, John

The serial number is L825663,so I think that means manufactured in December, 1958.

WANTED:   Loudspeaker for my bike posted by: Andy Fowler on 7/7/2003 at 3:05:22 AM
Do any of you know where I can get a loudspeaker for my bike? They sold them a few years ago and they mounted on the handlebars. They looked a lot like a siren. If any of you have one or know where I can get one please e-mail me at: Leahfowler18@aol.com. I'm desperate!

MISC:   c lown bike posted by: jerry on 7/6/2003 at 6:12:06 PM
I found what the person said was a clown bike. Looked fairly new. The amazing thing is you could steer it from the front and also the back steers. you could actually go down the street sideways. the fort has the normal handle bars and the back you turn by sittin on the seat and pedals i assume. What can anybody tell me about it and what should i pay for it? Thanks Jerry

RE:MISC:   Ted Williams 3 speed bicycle sold by Sears posted by JimW. on 7/5/2003 at 10:33:43 PM
I imagine that it was made in Austria, by Steyr, Daimler, Puch. Most Sears 3-speeds were, no matter what they called a particular model. Good bikes, but not particularly valuable to collectors.

Great find. Yes, these were made by Puch of Austria and the tubing and lugwork was above average. Now, I disagree with the previous guy in that the "Ted Williams" models from the early 60s are quickly becoming very collectible with the Campy-equipped versions being the most desireable. It came as a base model in white with red & blue pinstripes or an upgraded model in gold. With a promotional endorsement from the great baseball legend and then the subsequest passing of same, look for this model to continue to steadily rise in value.

Oh! Boy!, I visited our local dump today and left behind a Ted Williams men's bike frame, most likely a 10spd, white with red & blue stripe's, it had unique lugwork which almost made me grab it. Then I remembered reading the earlier post of how it wasn't likely to be a collectible. Back to the dump!

I would say app. 10,000. But that is just an estimate. I think you should take it to an appraiser.

FOR SALE:   weird yard sale raleigh sn 0077121 posted by: capt bill on 7/3/2003 at 3:14:35 PM
This raleigh reminds me of the bikes the bears ride in the circus. It has several unusual (to me, the guy who doesn't know from downtubes) features. The handlebar and post are one piece. The cables (brake and shift)are routed inside the sloping tube (can it be, downtube?), the only tube connecting the 2 ends of the bike. It is 1 3/4" diameter. Uses 16X1 3/4" tires. Sturmy Archer AW dated 66 7, controlled by a twist grip shifter, which works. Dyna hub on the front wheel powering headlight (which seems undersized)and taillight. They are both fender mounted and seem original, although they don't work. It has a rampar seat similar to ones I've seen on ebay go for $60.00. The normal seat post clamping arrangement is broken off so some butcher drilled through both tubes and put a bolt through; no adjustment now. Maybe the bears were all the same size? A decal on the diagonally slanting (down?)tube is barely readable as "R S W".
Can anyone tell me about this bike and its rarity and value? I have a sony mavica digital camera which makes it very easy to send pictures. Can this site accept pictures? Thanks in advance for any info. Till I get it, it will remain, in my mind, a circus bike. capt bill.
