I still need a front fender for my Mk1 restoration, seat for a Mk2, and other little bits like (R)-acorn nuts. Will consider Choppers in less than desirable condition for parts as well. E-mail me at SuperDeluxe65-bikes@yahoo.com

MISC:   need info posted by: Vikki on 3/2/2004 at 1:42:49 AM
I have a 12" solid rubber tire, western flyer that was red and white that my husband is restoring for me. I would like some information on this bike. The pedals were mounted on the front wheel. If anyone has a year or any other info on this bike I would appreciate it. It must have had a basket on the rear fender because of a bracket that is there. It also has a fin like thing on the front fender.
Thanks

MISC:   Information on 60s? Schwinn Racer posted by: Judy on 3/2/2004 at 12:47:53 AM
Wondering if anyone can tell me the year and value of a Schwinn "Racer". I'm guessing mid-60s. 3 Speed, men's bike. Serial # is MR30224. The "R" is not really clear, but I think that's what it says. The bike is blue, does not have what I would call "balloon" tires. It was probably considered a lightweight when it was made, but is more what we would consider a middleweight now. Appreciate any information anyone can give me on the bike. Year? Value?

Judy

MRxxxxx would indicate December 1980. I don't think the Racer was made that late. More likely the R is a B which would make it December 1966 which fits with your estimate of mid sixties vintage. The bike probably isn't worth much unless it is in pristine condition. They usually sell for under $50 but I've seen some really nice ones go on ebay for close to $200

A second estimation of age would be to look on the rear hub. SA 3 speeds are usually stamped with a two digit year i.e. "66".

Judy, you can have a lot of fun browsing the consumer catalogs in the Schwinn Lightweight Data Book
http://www.geocities.com/sldatabook/cover.html
(and I believe we have Eric A. to thank for archiving these images). Go to the Models for your year range and click on consumer catalog. -I took a look and found that the '68 catalog doesn't offer a very good image of the Racer, but the '67 catalog does. I like your decision to exclude it from the lightweight category- it ain't light- but the 26x1 3/8 tires traditionally aren't middleweight either. For my money it's the Chicago version of the roadster. I also agree with Eric's valuation. I have one that's seen better days, still a solid rider, that I'd take $25 for.

WANTED:   Wheelset for your basic English Sports posted by: Geoffrey on 3/1/2004 at 1:05:04 PM
Looking for a front wheel for a English Sports bike - the type found on the Raleigh/Robin Hood/Triumph/Dunelt/Hercules/Phillips Sports models in the 26 X 1 3/8 size. Must have the Sturmey Archer Dynohub in front wheel. Need a rim/dynohub that's in really decent cleanup condition - no rusty/damaged stuff. I'd prefer p/u in the NY/CT/NJ tri-state area because shipping is cost prohibitive with the value of these parts! I have $ and/or small parts to exchange if you like.

WANTED:   FRONT FENDER posted by: Steve on 2/29/2004 at 10:54:41 PM
Hi, I am looking for a front fender that is for a springer fork 1960's Murray built bicycle. The fender for the springer fork is the same one used on Flightliners and Spaceliners, too. If anyone has one in good shape, and wants to sell it, let me know! (I will buy both front and rear fenders if it comes down to it)
Thanks!
