I have a Challenger bike sold by Coast to Coast hardware stores. Definetly old school. Serial number h300614. Does anyone know who the manufacturer is so I can trace the ser.# and find a date?

MISC:   What kind of bicycle do I have posted by: Debra Gomes on 5/4/2005 at 2:48:30 AM
I have a bicycle that was found in my grandfather's garage. I have no idea how to tell what kind of Columbia bicycle it is. I would love any help or advice. It is a blue bicyle, women's. It doesn't have any gears, so one speed. The badge on it says "Westfield". There is a serial number A 67018. It has a light on the front and a push button for a horn on the frame. Hmmm, other than that....it was registered in the town where we live. The date on the registration is 1965, so I would assume the bike is from that year or older.

Thank you so very much. The bicycle is beautiful and I look forward to cleaning it up. Any suggestions on how to do that would also be appreciated.

Thanks, Debra

Debra, you came to the right place. The Columbia chart on this site indicates you might have a '55. You can also find some good tips on refurbishing it here. Note that serial numbers in general don't tell much about what model you have; you still know more about it than we do. Check the picture database on this site and see if any of the bikes shown resembles yours. Keep it clean and in running condition, don't do anything you can't undo, and enjoy it. That's my two cents...
