I have this 1968 schwin varsity. Great condition, all original parts. How much do you think I can get for it? Just starting my search.
I don't know about right now, but a couple of years ago the snobs on the Schwinn forums referred to the Varsity as a "$10 bike".
This is because there were so many of them made and sold, and that they were pretty heavy for "lightweight" bikes. The same applied to the Schwinn Continental. I owned one of those, but when I needed to get rid of it for the space it was occupying, my local bike shop guy would only take it on consignment, with a $50 price tag. It was a beautiful example of the breed, too. A "middleweight" Schwinn of the same vintage and condition would probably go for at least a couple of hundred.
Eventually, when Varsitys and Continentals become more scarce, a well-preserved one will be worth some serious money to a "completist" collector; but it'll take a while for that to happen. They're just too well made to disintegrate naturally.

Hello, Im tired of trying to find something on ebay, so I thought I would try here, I'm looking for an old mens/boys 26" ballooner from the 40s/early 50s or so, I'm not after any certain make, but I want something that is very rusty frame wise, something that looks like it was pulled out of a scrapyard or a barn and has been sitting there for a good 20 years- rusty but at least looks like it will hold up (I plan to ride it that way, im not "restoring". I dont need the rims or tires with it, as they will probably be shot anyways, but I need everything else to be there; for a resonable price please.. look in your pile of dregs, as long as the frame/forks arent bent its useable to me, send photos if you have anything that might interest me.. Thanks a lot!
I'll try and get over to the warehouse with my camera on Saturday and I'll email you some photos.
