MISC:   Need info on oldie 'folder' posted by: Linda Kahn on 9/21/2006 at 12:44:19 PM
I have a Monark 'folding' bike I'd like to get more information on---and can't locate ANYTHING on it--from the internet. It almost seems like the bike doesn't exist.
The seat and handlebars come off the bike with a built-in skewer on the frame. Also, the bike doens't fold necessarily, but 'hinges' onto the frame also with a skewer type mechanism (it breaks in two basically). It has beautiful chrome fenders front and rear, built in large European bike rack, 20" tires and an internal 2-speed Bendix system with coaster brake. Would appreciate ANY info on this unsual bike from the 60's or 70's possibly. I'll be glad to send photos when I get a response from you.

I believe these were called a Monark Hi-Lo. I've seen several of them in person and occassionally on eBay. As interesting as they are, they don't seem to command much of a price. Seem to usually sell for about $50.
