FOR SALE:   Identifying Old Schwinn Bike posted by: Mrs. H on 7/19/2008 at 8:33:49 AM
We recently purchased an old Schwinn at a yard sale and are interested in selling it on ebay (or wherever) but we are having trouble identifying the year it was made. We believe to be an old Stingray and it is in pretty darn good condition! If we are seeing the serial # correctly it appears to be LA10897....in looking at this websites serial number identifyer it looks like it was made in Dec of '65....can anyone verify this for me?

Not sure where to start my own thread? I have a similar question on recently acquired Schwinn Panther III. I've looked at serial numbers listed here and think it may be 1958 but the numbers don't fit exactly. Have found little info on Panther III also. SN: J021945

1958: J811112 - J842720 7 characters

1953: J00001 - J99999

bunchobikes won't have that serial number. If it is aluminum and a PDG (Paramount Design Group) bike, is it one of the number series models? 684, 594, 434? That serial number fits the scheme of a letter for the month and a number for the year (Asian or Mississippi built), decoding to February of 1990.
