In 1964 Schwinn was building Continentals in Chicago; the LeTour came much later. The 4F in the serial number MIGHT signify June 1974 or June 1984 production, but I have to plead ignorance and defer to the LeTour experts.

I just bought a 1984 Raleigh SuperCourse. The frame is too big for you but trying to find out more about the bike. What information do you have? Thanks, Karl

I have been looking for any information regarding my childhood bicycle. It has been in a box for the past 30+ years & it is in excellent condition. So far, I have been unable to find even a mention of my bike Model in any of the references I have located.
Year 1952
Maker: Schwinn
Model Name Sierra
Serial Number F329044
(Serial Number is located on the left rear dropout)
This is a 15 speed road bike. It has front and rear chrome fenders, chrome rims, and quick release hubs. Everything on the bike is original & all the Schwinn badges are in perfect condition. At the time I purchased it, I didn’t notice the weight factor, but now it feels like it weighs a ton!

Any information you can offer will be great. Please feel free to contact me if I can offer any further information.
Thanks much!

Your serial number I believe indicate this to be a 1963 model. They did not make the sierra in 1952.

Thank you for your comments. I apologize, I meant to type 1962, but I keep typing 52 instead. It would have been hard for me to buy it in '52 because I had not yet been born. Again, thank you!

What's the Sierra model? I was looking at the Schwinn catalogs ( http://www.geocities.com/sldbconsumer/1962/62cc1.html ) on line and there's only a few 10/15 speed models; Paramount, Superior, Continental, etc.

David, go back to the SLDB website and look at the 1963 and 1964 catalogs. You will find the Sierra in them. Basically, it was a 15 speed version of the Continental with a few other upgrades(depending on the year)as well.

I THINK the Sierra had the Varsinental electroforged frame, whereas the Superior was fillet-brazed CrMo.
