Does anyone know about Pinarello bikes that were made in West Germany? I found one yesterday, and am attempting to find out the year/model. Thanks.

Simplex shifting levers and derailers.
The front and rear brakes have Weinmann 610 and Vainqueur 999 on them.
The color is like a yellow/pea green mixture.

I also have a similar pinarello frame. i was reading on another site that it may be a counterfeit. It is pretty old though. it says "hand made in germany" and "deutsche wertabeit" or something like that. the pinarello lettering is unlike any i've seen.

What year did the international first appear.....I've been told it was 1966, but it first shows up in the Raleigh catalog in 1970 ? ?

The chronology of models on the RetroRraleighs site (http://www.retroraleighs.com/models.html) also says 1966, but that catalogs there don't show it until 1970. Perhaps those earlier catalogs are incomplete, but the price list for 1968 doesn't list the Int'l either.

I have a Schwinn Black Phantom with a springer.rusty beyond belief on the rms but frame paint is legible.major rust and dents on chainguard but springer may be slavageable.leather is gone from 90% of seat.I will e-mail pictures later .I looked up the serial # r44360 which is 1957 if Im right.very exciting bike!please tell me any usefull info.I have been using oven cleaner and steel wool but I thing dish soap and rags for starters because the paint is so rust eaten.pinstriping is nice .It has three gears on the coasterhub which would require removal of wheel and chain to select speed. thanks much.I also have a hawthorne men's .very simple but I am curious if it has value.Serial #'s are30501R C 513552. I'm not sure how to post pics on this site.I could e-mail them

I doubt the serial number will get you anywhere. Try posting on middleweight & ballooner list and post a picture.

Why is this discussion area the one that seems to get all the questions like: "I have an old girl's bike repainted pink. What's it worth?"

In this context, the term "lightweight" is evidently a bit esoteric and misunderstood by the general public.

I'd say that the word "vintage" is what sucks them in. If someone wants to think that what they have might be worth enough to pay off the morgage, they won't ask on a "old rusty bike" subject.
And maybe they are very strong and think nothing of a 45 pound rig.
