MISC:   Simplex Skewers posted by: Bryant on 4/9/2008 at 1:33:54 PM
So last fall i go to a local Goodwill and pick up this spray painted 10 speed for $20. I bought it just because it had a Campy seatpost. Sold the seatpost on Ebay for $15 in Jan. and started working on the bike. I get to overhauling the wheels and i notice it has Simplex skewers. never saw them before, they're kinda cool looking. So I check on Ebay, nothing. I fix up the wheels and get ready to put them on the bike and i decide to check Ebay gain. There is one set going for $15 and there is a reserve on it. For Skewers??? I figure why not, i have other skewers that will work just as well. I put them on for 49.99, that will cover the cost of the bike and some parts. There is less than 2hours left and the bid is up to over $100. For skewers??? I don't get it. I'm really happy, that's much more than what i was going to sell the bike for, but really confused. Are they relly that rare and worth that much???

I'd venture a guess that they may be going to Japan. Our bike collecting friends in the Land of the Rising Sun have a thing for old French bikes and bits. I picked up a mystery bike for $30 at a swap and sold the Stronglight crank (missing a chainring) off of it for $250. If it had had that other ring I probably would have doubled the price. They probably think we're nuts for our high priced Schwinn Sting-Rays and vintage BMX ...

You're right it was a Japanese bidder who won. But with what I got on that auction, I bought a nice large steel (probably Reynolds) frame with beautiful Nervex lugs. I'll take that trade all day long.

AGE / VALUE:   Year of a PX-10 posted by: Dave on 4/7/2008 at 10:01:43 PM
I've just acquired an early 70's Peugeot PX-10 that I'm going to restore, and am trying to determine the year. Serial number is 2444952. I'm pretty certain it is '72 or slightly later. Any clues?

Thanks.

You can check on classicrendezvous.com. There also used to be a Peugeot PX-10 website.....dedicated to the PX-
10 - but I don't know if it still exists

AGE / VALUE:   Concorde Americas posted by: Lorraine on 4/7/2008 at 12:44:30 PM
I have a Concorde Americas which I bought used at least 10 years ago. It has a 19" frame with 26" wheels. It has Shimano 105 components. I can e-mail out photos.

Is this bike worth anything more than just as a used bike? What would be a reasonable price to ask? Thanks.
