Fleetwings were made by the Raleigh company in Nottingham, along with dozens of other brands. They were all built to last a lifetime with reasonable care. Check out the English Roadsters list on this site, as your bike is more a "roadster" than a true lightweight (have you tried to pick it up?). Enjoy it, and if you need parts or advice, ask us on the Roadster list and we'll try to help.

AGE / VALUE:   Need info on Guarantee Bicycle Co. posted by: John on 8/19/2008 at 3:29:55 PM
Hello, I recently aquired an old skip tooth track bike with wooden rims. It is badged Guarantee Bicycle Co. "Stutz" St. Louis. I can't find any info on the web about the company. I'm hoping someone can give me an age estimate by the components. The bike has E. J. Lobdell wood rims with 28 x 1-1/4 tubulars, a Persons saddle, Torrington Comet 6 pedals. I haven't been able to find a brand on the crank or hubs, but the crank is a skiptooth. I will add a link to photos. Any info appreciated.....Also, any tips on removing the outer coat of paint that was added later and leaving the original paint underneath?

AGE / VALUE:   early 80s Eddy Merck posted by: Antoinette Yasik on 8/18/2008 at 4:09:41 PM
I have what I presume to be an early 80's Eddy Merck bike. It has been updated with Shimano and Dura Ace components. It is in very good condition. The frame is orginal Eddy Merckx. the serial # on the bottom bracket reads A 1852, also reads 3X 41. It has the rainbow decals on the seat tube, depicting the countries Italy and France. Also, has rainbow design with EM initals on head tube and seat tube. Eddy Merck name decal on down tube. The EM initials are stamped on forks and top stay. I also see Record (Recoro?) Campagnolo stamped on the saddle tube. Just trying to identify the exact year and tubing type (Columbus, SP or SL). Any other info would be helpful. Thanks.

You might try posting it on the balloon tire and middle weights section.

AGE / VALUE:   Identifying vintage Allegro posted by: Elaine on 8/17/2008 at 11:47:42 PM
Can someone point me to a website that would help me identify the age of my mom's vintage allegro? I know she overhauled it once but it has since fallen into disrepair and I'm considering either restoring it or selling it but I need to get a better idea of what I've got. Any help would be appreciated.

Allegro is one of those not-very-well-known brands.
