AGE / VALUE:   musclebike website/pics needed posted by: Brandon on 12/6/2000 at 8:33:26 PM
Hello,
I am in the process of gathering jpeg pictures of various musclebikes. I am developing a site aimed at educating about the different styles and models of musclebikes. This is much needed. I already have a pretty good size pile, and would like more. Paying particular interest to non-schwinn types, I want ALL musclebikes and choppers represented. Please e-mail me any pics with info: year, manufacture, special options or features, and any interesting stories pertaining to the bike. Soooo, if you have that crazy bike nobody else has, lets see it! You can e-mail pics to:
basicthrive@yahoo.com
Thanks,
Brandon

AGE / VALUE:   Screamer #'s posted by: Brandon on 12/4/2000 at 9:47:16 PM
Does anyone know how to tell the year on a Screamer? From doing some research, I have what appears to be around a 1969 model, but I am not sure. Are there any known links to Screamer sites/info/fanatics? I am also hunting a set of butterfly bars and perhaps a shifter/brake assembly.
Thanks

Brandon, the screamers with the large chainguard have a couple of distinctions that varied from the 1968 model and later years. I believe only the 1968 model has a metal head tube badge while the later years are stickers. Also there is a BMA Safety sticker on the 69 and up right on the seat tube. I also have the parts you are looking for, E-mail me if interested.

Brandon

I suggest looking on Ebay sometimes you can find a Sears Christmas wish book /catalogue for 1968-1972 . I believe these are the years Screamers were made .1968 has a single lever 5 speed . Most I have seen are a yellowish gold. There was also a coaster Screamer made I believe in 1968 or 70 . There was a Screamer 1 and Screamer 2 made. They also made a rear mag wheel Screamer . I would like to have this bike impossible to find , but I have heard of a couple basket cases out there. I also have seen some Screamer 1's with soft seats or hard seats . I hope this helps please email me if you need any additional info.

THE STAMPING NUMBER ON THE HEAD BEGINS WITH "JAK" DOES THIS HELP?

   RE:AGE / VALUE:   Information wanted-re: 1972 sting-ray repro. posted by T.C.O. on 12/9/2000 at 7:29:22 PM
Don't know for sure about the sticker on the yellow ones, the blue ones, of course don't say anything but "Schwinn", and "Sting-ray". As for as the serial numbers, I have two Krate reproductions, one starts with JAK, the other is HAK. The one with HAK was produced early in production because of the five digits, the first one is "0".

Country Time is a current brand of powdered lemonade mix. I can well imagine a premium/promotional krate repop line in
yellow with such a brand sticker on it. Wasn't there a Rolling Rock krate repop? I would suppose those are green.

MISC:   "Book" Collectable Schwinn Sting-Ray Bicycles posted by: Robert on 12/2/2000 at 6:10:59 PM
I just received the book. However I'm having some difficulty understanding it. For example, on page #64 under frame equipment specifications. There are two seperate lists for factory and I.B.M. numbers. Why ? and what is I.B.M. ? Also using these #'s how would I use them to identify the original color of a bike?, seat?, and so on....
Anybody care to help simplify this issue? Thanks !!!

Robert

I think the IBM number is their internal accounting number.
Also, you cannot determine a bike's original color from it's serial number.

BUT..! Usually you can see some of the original paint inside the head tube and bottom bracket.

This book is very detailed. So take your time. Find your year and model, and you will see the colors are there in print for your bike.
