Thats what happens when parents don't control or monitor what their kids are doing. All those insults and silly posting irritated many individual. I am glad that Schwinn closed it. They should open it up again but using passwords. This is the only way we can insure that insults don't go unpunished.

DOES ANY BODY KNOW HOW TO STRAIGHT BENT OR CURVED HANDLEBARS I REALLY NEED THEM FIXED ALSO DOES ANYBODY KNOW HOW TO STRAIGHTEN A FORK

RE:AGE / VALUE:   BIG TALL HANDLEBARS posted by Joel on 2/8/2001 at 7:12:27 AM
I have straightened handlebars by putting them in a vise and using a long rod that fits inside the bar to bend them. If the forks are bent straight back, they could probably be bent back the same way.

RE:RE:AGE / VALUE:   BIG TALL HANDLEBARS posted by Kevin C. on 2/8/2001 at 2:02:15 PM
If the forks are cocked to the left or right, they also can be bent back, either by hand or by slipping a piece of water pipe over the bent side and applying pressure. They are usually springier than you would think. No heating is necessary.

Does anyone know the best way,(if there is one)to get the yellowing off a White Wall tire, I have a NOS but it's yellowed, any tricks that I could try would be appreciated...thx

RE:MISC:   WW tire posted by Raymond on 2/6/2001 at 7:56:47 AM
Mike, I have had limited success using a mild bleach/water mixture. I mix, in a spray bottle, about 1/4 bleach to 3/4 water, spray it on, and scrub it w/a stiff synthetic brisstle brush, and then rinse. I have never been able to get all the yellowing off, but it always looks far better.

RE:RE:MISC:   WW tire posted by mike on 2/6/2001 at 5:58:05 PM
thanks Raymond, I'll try that, I hope it will help...

RE:MISC:   WW tire posted by Mick on 2/6/2001 at 7:38:57 PM
Mike, be very careful not to get that bleach on the inside of the tire. It'll fry the cords and the tire will blow out.

RE:RE:MISC:   WW tire posted by A freind on 2/7/2001 at 12:42:11 AM
Easy-off oven cleaner. Donot spray around aluminium. Spray on tires, better off the bike, wait 2mins, and follow up with a SOS pad and rince with water and your done.

Westley's Bleach white is great!Don't get it on the tire tread but it wouldn't hurt it.

Yup, Westley's Blech WHite posted by Mike Stone on 2/10/2001 at 5:20:05 AM
Yup Westley's Blech White is THE ticket for cleaning white walls (curously, I think it is actually Blech rather than Bleach). You get it in the automotive cleaning section at the hardware or department stores. It will certainly improve any white-wall, but really old yellowed tires are "iffy" and may still have some stained or yellow sections. I still have not found a cure for the black spots that look like mildew on old white-walls. If anybody has any ideas, please share them.

Another good product for cleaning is GOO GONE. It will really clean up handle grips like nothing else.

AGE / VALUE:   Question on Huffy Serial Numbers posted by: Rich on 2/5/2001 at 11:34:33 AM
I recently picked up a Huffy Slingshot III "rail". It is yellow with matching yellow fenders and "exhaust" chainguard, 3-speed T-shifter w/console, 16 x 20 raised white-letter "XKE" tires and fake springer shock in front. I think it is probably one of the last "rail" frame bikes made. Anyway, the serial number on the frame starts with "2H...." . It seems that the "2" would stand for 1972. Seem right?

RE:AGE / VALUE:   Question on Huffy Serial Numbers posted by Chris on 2/6/2001 at 2:08:09 PM
That sounds right to me, based on the Huffy bikes I own and others I have seen. Does your bike have a sticker on the frame that says BMA/6 (or something similar)? I've been trying to determine when these first appeared, and so far it looks like 1971 or 1972.

I have a 1969 huffy, sort of a mustard yellow color, same fork, tires etc, but not the shifter.

Hi Eric, About your Bantam, Lets say you bought this to make a little money on it. Well my freind thats about it. Now, this is only my opionion. I am sure when you are standing in front of this bicycle she's a looker and a half. If someone gave it to you, well your already ahead. This is a great starter bike for a kid who would apreciate it. Lets say I take a stabb at it, how about $65.00. It might be worth a little more if you part it out.
