i found a rear disc brake for a bicycle for $1.00 it says iverson disc brake on it. what bike does it go on???thank you.

RE:AGE / VALUE:   iverson discs brake posted by JimW. on 12/27/2002 at 7:44:30 PM
Your disc brake is probably for one of the bikes George Barris, the car kustomizer designed for Stelber/Iverson.
At BikeRod&Kustom, we have several articles on Mr. Barris'
Iverson designs. None of the bikes shown in the articles have disc brakes, as I recall; but he designed many components which don't show in the material we have.

Disc Brakes were also used on some 10 speed bikes.

RE:RE:RE:RE:AGE / VALUE:   iverson discs brake posted by JimW. on 12/31/2002 at 9:26:00 AM
Iverson also made 10-speeds in the '70s, just before they went out of business. The disc might still be a Barris design, though. He designed a lot of components not for muscle bikes.

In that era Shimano made a rear disc brake. Matter of fact I know where there is a MINT, NOS, Still in the Box, Murray 10 speed that's sporting a Shimano rear disc. The old timer want's $250 for the bike! I said "Dang expensive boat anchor"! LOL

I just posted a problem im having with the wheel/tire not fitting thing..the number of spokes..when did the 36 spoke come out verses the 28 spoke..the new aftermarket tires fit the 36 spoke?I know they dont fit the 28s.this tire problem is driving me crazy.I have 4 bikes im redoing and im at a stalemate..NO TIRES MEANS NO RIDE...PETE

RE:MISC:   tires..wheels posted by Stacey on 12/25/2002 at 12:49:00 PM
Hi Pete... Welcome to "The Anomaly". Forget what you learned in 3th grade math; 1 3/4" does not equal 1.75" when dealing with bicycle tires. Your problem lies not in the spoke count of the rims, rather it appears that you're trying to fit tires marked 20 x 1.75" to rims marked 20 x 1 3/4" (or Schwinn S-7) You have two solutions, the first is to buy yourself tires that will fit the Schwinn S-7 rims. You probably won't find these at the local stack 'em high & let 'em fly superstore, but chances are good that your local Schwinn dealer (if there are any left LOL) would have some. If that fails, there are always the on line bicycle supply stores or eBay. Be prepared to pay through the nose for the Original Schwinn items, though repro's should be cheaper. Your other alternative would be to relace the wheels with the 20 x 1.75 sized rims and thus enabling you to use the more commonly available tires that are sized to fit.

RE:MISC:   tires..wheels posted by Russell on 12/27/2002 at 3:27:44 AM
I found that out the hard way myself. Schwinn tire sizes are slightly off from everyone else. I found out that 3/4 isn't the same as .75 on tires.

RE:RE:MISC:   tires..wheels posted by JimW. on 12/27/2002 at 7:49:00 PM
That one got me, too. I bought an aftermarket S-7 slik, and discovered it didn't work on a 1.75 rim. I've still got it hanging around, if anyone's interested.

WANTED:   stingray tires posted by: pete on 12/25/2002 at 1:01:31 AM
Im having a major problem with the tires im purchasing.all of the aftermarket tires do not fit my old stingray wheels. It turns out that the old rims will only accept a tire that is 16 1/2 in.inside diameter from bead to bead. The new aftmkt.tires are only 16in. and wont fit.I cant find anyone who can help me with a contact. At the same time i would not like to be taken to the cleaners..any help would be appreciated..pete

RE:WANTED:   stingray tires posted by Cal on 12/27/2002 at 2:51:43 PM
Schwinn rims are a non-standard size. They built them that way so they could always sell their own tires.
Now they don't make them anymore and your local bike shop doesn't stock them.

BUT!! YOU"RE IN LUCK!!

This site (oldraods) carries tires in the odd Schwinn sizes. Click on "parts for sale" at the top of this page!
