AGE / VALUE:   OLD HUFFY MUSCLE BIKE posted by: FIREBALL on 1/30/2002 at 10:22:32 PM
I HAVE AN OLD HUFFY MUSCLE BIKE THAT I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW THE AGE OFF. BIKE IS 20" BLACK WITH WHITE WALL TIRES. THE ORIGINAL TIRES WERE FIRESTONE CUSHIONS, IT HAS A THREE SPEED THAT SHIFTS ON THE HANDLE BARS. THE GEARS ARE LOW,NUTURAL,HIGH. THE HANDLE BARS ARE WIDE WHICH LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THAT IT'S EARLY OR MID SIXTIES. IT'S A "DRAGSTER III" . IT REMINDS ME OF A '66 J.C PENNEY'S DELUXE WILDCAT. THANKS

On a Huffy bike of that era, the first digit of the serial number should be the last digit of the year of the bike. By your description, my guess would be a 65 or 66. Does the serial number start with either a 5 or 6?

AGE / VALUE:   ORIGINAL CHAIN FOR AN EARLY STINGRAY ???? posted by: Kevin K on 1/30/2002 at 7:15:57 PM
Hi. I parted a 1965 Schwinn Exercise bike last year. I was told at the time alot of the first exercise bikes used Stingray pieces. I've still got the original Union ( made in West Germany chain ) It's in great condition. A saw a couple rust spots on it that you have to stare at to find. Nice bluish/black links and silver centers. Email if any interest. Kevin K

The speedometer on that has got to fetch at least fifty bucks.

Hey! I've had more people ask me about the speedo than any other part. BUMMER ! It was a HURET speedo v a Stingray unit. The Huret piece is very nice but................ I really hated to part it. The thing was mint but I'm not about to collect exercise bikes. Schwinn or not. Kevin

I am looking for some help finding the year of this Jr. Stingray #JM-507057. Also need to find a disc for a 72 disc brake Krate. I just aquired the hub and had the brake caliper, but am missing the disc. If anyone can help I could meet them at the upcoming Milwaukee Swap Meet at State Fair Park on Feb. 16. Look up State Fair Park, February events for more details. Also posted this note on the Swap Meet Board. Thanks - Patrick

I think it's worth $209, how many '63s do you See out there? About one hundred '66-'79 Stingrays sell every week on ebay. Early ones are scarce, and original paint is a plus, I've heard of people forging serial#'s on Jr. frames then selling them as '63-'64's. that one had a crank and headset, post & clamp, + badge, thats $50+ right there.

Calling all "Fish Mongers"! Due to the scarcity (NONE) of information on the internet regarding the Ross Barracuda, I'm taking it upon myself to solicit and compile any and all information on this marque. If there is anyone out there with ANY kind of information... Dealer Catalogs, Magazine Reviews, even an old rusty frame! I'm looking for Images, tech data, serial numbers and corresponding styles. In short, whatever you have to share, please share this way!

In the wind,
Stacey

I just got my hands on a sweeeet baby blue girls 'cuda 3 speed I'm not sure about the year but its at least 25 years old it has a white vynl seat with blue flames on it- I'm also customizing a 20" boys barracuda for a homie of mine with all new parts and 144 spoke wheels..I also have another girls 'cuda that recieved some light bodywork and a candy purple pearl paintjob and is slammed on a set of 16" baby daytons. I usually only buy/ ride schwinn but barracuda's always find their way into my greasy paws I plan to take some pics of all my bikes if yuz wanna see some...

I saved one before it went to the "bike graveyard". It was w/ someones trash to be picked up by one of those BIG scary trucks. Girls, violet in color along w/ all violet ribbed seat w/ no rips at all! Everything on this bike is original. It even has strapped on it a wicker basket. It just has basement funk on it from sleeping in the basement. I'm going to go over it sometime this winter. Original WW tires are junk though. I think it could be around a 1968-69. Does anyone know how to tell the date from the s/n?

RE:RE:RE:WANTED:   Ross Barracuda Enthusiast posted by Stacey on 1/23/2002 at 10:56:31 PM
From what I've seen with my bike... the crank is stamped A 1976 and the left rear drop out carries the S/N the second two digits are also 76. I don't know if there is a correlation. We need more data. Why not pull your crank (No, the one on the bicycle!) and compare it to the serial number. Let me know what you find out... after you wash your hands LOL!

WANTED:   Fire cracker muscle bike posted by: Rick on 1/18/2002 at 8:18:06 PM
I had a bike in the early to mid 70s, it was a muscle bike, that went by the name "Firecracker". It was red, white and blue, with a banana seat that had a flat raised section in the back. I believe it was a 5 spd. I'm not sure who the manufacturer was, and there is a chance it may have been distributed under a department store name. Does anyone know anything about this bike?

V/R,
Rick Baylor

Wow! Cool name. All the diffrent childhood bikes from the 1950's 1960's 1970's! So many names, models, types, equipment! It's a big subject. worthy of a book. I myself have never heard of it, but no matter. Somebody else has and you just keep looking. Do you have a picture someplace you could scan and post someplace? That would help a lot. Good Luck! It is out there someplace, trust me.
