AGE / VALUE:   Sturmey Archer 5spd s5 hub posted by: Ryan on 8/8/2002 at 8:05:20 AM
Does anyone know the value of a NOS Sturmey Archer s5 5spd hub from 1969?

RE:AGE / VALUE:   Sturmey Archer 5spd s5 hub posted by Mike on 8/8/2002 at 12:54:33 PM
The S5 was a modified 4-spd. FW. Setting up the shifting can be tricky. Finding a guy that wantsa it will determain value, maybe $35-75? NOS is a real plus.

That end bellcrank piece is worth $20.00-$40.00 alone to the Raleigh Chopper people. This hub went on some of the Raleigh Choppers so advertise there.
It's the early version 5 speed and finiky. Well, I should not say that. Lots of folks use this hub without problems. Myself. I like the S5/2. I'd say
65-100.00 perhaps. I have not been following what this hub would get lately.
the other post is correct, it is a modified 4 speed hub.

MISC:   GIVE A LOOK AT MY HOMEBUILT CHOPPER posted by: Mario Romano on 8/7/2002 at 7:58:01 PM
Using an 1986 Caloi Cruiser frame, I replaced the fork by an all-new I built using parts of old brazilian bicycles. There is no solderings except the original factory ones. The job was finished april/2002 when I painted the chopper solid gold yellow and put some accessories as mirror, chaincover and retired the black rear fender in order for to get a better final look at my bicycle. I begun to built it in the middle of 2001.

THE PHOTO IS...

MISC:   Schwinn Crate looking bike sold at Walmart. posted by: George on 8/5/2002 at 3:28:25 AM
I spoke to someone at a classic car cruise nite who was selling a gold Schwinn Crate looking bike. The manufacturer was AMF. Walmart sold them a couple of years ago. The bike has the long sissy bar, 16" wheel in front,
20" rear wheel, cantilever front fork like the Schwinn Crate bikes. The bike actually looks like the one that is pictured on this website, except the rims did not have as many spokes.
Can anyone shed more light onto this bicycle that was sold at Walmart a few years ago?

George

I saw a bike like you describe at a Toys-R-Us a year ago. They also had a light blue Stingray type bike with whitewall tires. The company name on the bike was AMX and they sell bikes through retail stores. Do a search on the net for AMX bicycles.

The 'U' indicates a later year, but still, you have a nice girls bike with a built in '60's vibe, that will last forever with care and maintainance. No real collectible value, but the kool factor and cheap price makes it a great find. Enjoy the ride.
