Justmwhen I was ready to give up on finding a 1963 Stingray for a half way decent price, my luck changed, I looked out my window as our garbage truck was backing down the street and tied to the side was a lime Stingray frame with rear wheel! I went right outside to ask the driver about it, he said it was on the street and that he was going to fix it up for his son. He as very suprized when I offered him $30. for it, he gladly took the money and I had myself a Nov. 1963 lime Stingray project w/36 spoke S2 wheel ! This makes collecting old bikes fun!

The Swinger was sold by JC Penney's in 1969-1970. The headbadge says "Formost". Both the Swinger and the Flying-O were manufactured by Murray and are esentially the same bike. Email me directly for more info...

AGE / VALUE:   Twist shifters posted by: Tim Welsh on 8/15/2002 at 10:25:42 PM
I realize I'm low on info about this, but here it goes. I recently picked up a non-descript,1970s (I think) 'girl's frame' muscle bike. The reason I grabbed it was because of the 3-speed hub, and white handled twist grip shifter.

I am planning to tranfer the parts to an older Hiawatha muscle bike frame I found at the dump, to make what should be a very cool bike.

Two questions: First, does anyone know anything about the 'twist grip' shifters?

Also, I'm trying to get an exact colour match to touch up the paint on the Hiawatha. I can't find anything close in automotive paint. Does anyone know how to get colour-matched, metallic spray paint?

Looking for information about the Sears Screamer. Would like
to know when the bike was made, how many sold, etc.Does anyone know where I can find information? Recently bought a
great cheater slick(20x2.125)on E Bay Item # 2130828598 for our Swing Bike. Brand new, really makes our S.B. SWING!

RE:AGE / VALUE:   Sears Screamer/great cheater slicks posted by John on 8/26/2002 at 3:48:32 AM
Sears made the Screamer from 1968 -I believe 1971 or 1972 . I don't have the production #'s. The 1968 looks different than the other years. They also made them with 2 different seats one was soft and the other was hard. They also made one with a mag whel in the rear This is very hard to find. I only heard of a couple bikes found with this. Sears also made a Screamer 2 .I hope this helps. I am looking for a Huffy Slingshot or other 20x16 muscle bikes for sale.

Thanks
John

I've had Muscle bikes for many years, but never a Krate. I found a super deal on one and snatched it up. I put it away until one day when I was drinking and got very socially lubricated and decided to take it on it's maiden voyage. Well, I'm sure you can guess that I wrecked it! Of course only wearing shorts and sandles did not help. I messed up the following items, sissybar, knee, handgrip, shoulder, back, ahd handlebars. Then I laid down on the couch and got blood on it, Which made the wife very happy!I am an IDIOT! Please learn from my mistakes. Thanks:(

Look in the phone book for a alcohol treatment class in your area. Sign up, go to it regularly. Grab this by the horns and get better and get to deal with it. You cannot be doing this.
Count yourself lucky you did not attract the attention of the police. If you were behind the wheel of a car, you certainly would have and you'd be in so much trouble you would need lawyers with flashlights to see your way out of it. Perhaps
$6000.00 in legal bills! Injure somebody and it's all over for you. Take yourself off the road, voluntarily. Get into a class voluntarily, fix the deal with the alcohol before the police do it for you. Before you get into real, serious trouble that cannot be undone. It's a crime to operate a vehicle under the influence and I don't know but they'd have nabbed you off of a bicycle had you been seen. Dude, you got hurt!(all bloddy) that's no way to be living. Take care of yourself. Later on you can ride a Sting Ray again. People die all the time, accidents, ruined lives, unbelievable bills and ordeals. They drag in drunk drivers every night to fill the cells up. You don't want to be there! Do you? Please get into a program or class.
Good Luck!

Meanirishmofo, ouch, I would have been pretty sad scratching up the Krate. You'll learn your lesson and the lesson is- Always keep your Krates locked up where you cant get to them when you plan to drink

How's the BIKE!!!

Chip is right, think about the alcohol issue, I have a high school friend in nursing home with severe brain damage...he hit a tree while riding drunk. I myself gave up drinking three years ago, life is much better. don't party for twenty years like me, stop the wreckage now! Plus, my '63 lime stingray thanks me, it won't get smashed up, lost, etc. After all I've owned it since 1968!

I had a old frame I just found laying around storage back from the days me and my friends use to make lowriders.. anywho I got to looking at it and was curious as to who made it and what year. I actually started stripping down the paint and came across HAL30829 Stamped on the left side of the headtube, and 70753 with WCA2756-A37 printed below that on the left Dropout. I searched around for alil while for the maker but didnt come across anything. Does anyone know what this is?
Thanks

MISC:   1969 Stingray DeLuxe posted by: Dave on 8/11/2002 at 3:07:10 AM
My parents purchased me a Flamboyant Red Stingray DeLuxe with a 3-speed stick shift in 1969. I cared for it very well and when I moved up to a 10-speed, I cleaned it up and hung it from the rafters. Sporadically over the years I have taken it in and had it tuned even though it really wasn't being ridden very much. Over the last year, my parents have been approached numerous times about selling the bike. They just tell the interested parties that it belongs to me and that I wasn't interested in selling it. Am I missing something about the worth or scarcity of this model bicycle? Thanks!

RE:MISC:   1969 Stingray DeLuxe posted by Ryan on 8/25/2002 at 2:39:41 PM
The value of this bike really counts on how cool the stingrays are to ride and collect. This model is not all that rare, but a good collectors piece. If you do not want it then please tell me how much you want for it and I would be glad to take it off your hands!
