Located a very nice Apple Krate in a pawn shop today and the 1st 3 letters in front of a series of numbers (s/n?) located near the front nameplate are HAK. Do they designate the year, etc? It's in really nice condition and appears to be complete but I don't thinks it's as nice as what they want for it----$450.00 Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

The bike is a reproduction model ... so to speak ... second edition ... probably made around 1999 ... 450 sounds high in price but as you know all stingrays and or krates are now hard to find, regardless of condition. The question you have to ask yourself is ... what is it worth to me ???

Thanks for your reply and the info on the "Pawn Shop" Apple Krate. I had no idea that there were "repros" out there.
Sorry for this tardy response.

Hi everyone; quick question. Was it 1973 that the date stamp on SA hubs was really faint? I know it was some time around then, just forget the exact year. Also, has anyone ever heard of the S2 hub? 2 speed automatic without coaster brake. Any idea what it's worth (great used shape or NOS)? I understand that they only ever made 11,000 of them. Lastly, was it '73 or '74 that they outlawed the stick shift? Thanks!
Niels

I have an old chrome stamped seat post clamp, looks similer to a schwinn. It says (AS) stamped in a "art deco" style on the bolt. The nut looks like a schwinn's nut. Would any one know what this is from? It came of a old 10speed. THANKS and stay cool.

Arnold Schwinn & Co. used in the early 60's and before.Hope this helps ya.

RE:RE:MISC:   what is the manufacture? posted by Kevin Burns on 2/6/2004 at 2:02:51 AM
yes it does, thanks.
The frame looks like a schwinn road bike, but the head badge holes are on the right and left side of the head tube as apposed to the normal in the center line of head tube. I can't find this frame in any search and there are no serial # on the frame.

AGE / VALUE:   krate parts posted by: KEVIN BURNS on 2/1/2004 at 2:17:26 PM
Hay again, I was reading on e-bay about a part for an old krate. The guy stated that a date code read on a 68 krate stem. I have many old cast krate stems and never have noticed a date code on them. What is he talking about?
Or did I just interpit it wrong?
As allways, any help would be considered COOL!

RE:AGE / VALUE:   krate parts posted by joel on 2/4/2004 at 3:36:52 PM
Most of the parts of a Krate are either stamped with a date or otherwise datable. Stems, cranks, handlebars have the year on them.
