AGE / VALUE:   Rollfast Skoot 5 speed posted by: Joe on 3/2/2004 at 8:09:33 AM
I came across a few old Rollfast 20" framesets today, all missing their wheels. One is a 5 speed with a stick shifter on the toptube. The wheels are gone and the sissy bar is rusty, but the paint is fair on all of them. I have an assortment of old Rollfast wheels, but I'm not sure which were 1.75 tires and which may have been wider? The cleanest one is a Rollfast Skoot. The 5 speed looks older simply by the shape of the chainguard, (the c/g looks like they took the style/shape from a 50's car).
Does anyone remember when these were being sold? Are they worth the time?

"Worth the time" is a relative opinion Joe. Certianly by today's standards they won't fetch Krate or Chopper dollars, but give them some time and perhaps they'll start to esclate along with the Ross musclebikes. The only "Skoot's" I've seen have been girls bikes... must be a dozen or more in this area, all the same medium blue and flowered seats all had 1.75's on both ends.

I have a Ross Muscle bike also that came along with the same lot, It's mint green but was a single speed. The frame is date coded April 1972.
I didn't think that Ross had any colectable value. I also have several Columbia's from the same era.

Joe, your Ross musclebike.. Barracuda or Apollo?

RE:RE:RE:RE:AGE / VALUE:   Rollfast Skoot 5 speed posted by Joe on 3/3/2004 at 9:36:07 PM
The Ross is a Green Barracuda, but since you mention Apollo, I think I have a frameset somewhere around here, I remember the odd design frame.

Ross was the popular bike in these parts back in the 70's, the Schwinn dealer was too far away and but the Ross dealer was right around the corner. Everyone had a Ross or a Columbia with the ocasional Raleigh. We rarely ever even saw a Sting-Ray or Krate. Then came the bmx craze and everyone seemed to go in that direction and all of the banana seat bikes disappeared.

Looking for banana seat for a Sears Gremlin. This is black with a metallic green inset. A decent Sears Cheater Slick 20x2.125 tire would help this bike as well.

About two years ago I took a UK MK1 Raleigh Chopper and using all NOS parts built myself a 3+2 US spec model. Only thing is now I feel that I should have used a US spec tall frame instead. So I am after a US Tall frame (that's all just the frame) to rebuild my bike once more and make it look more authentic. Can anyone help??
Thanks Ben

69 hubs had weird numbers, far more than there are months in the year......
Ive heard various stories, but most re-curring is that Stumey tried weeks instead of months that year....
sems only to be 69ers.
