MISC:   Sturm- Archer 3 Speed indicator window? posted by: Ken on 1/28/2005 at 7:44:06 PM
Hello. I'm refurbishing a 1973 Columbia "Raider" 3 speed (for my son) which fortunately needs very little beyond some elbow grease and a polish.
One of those things that I need however is a "1-2-3" window for the Sturmey Archer shifter. (Here is a picture off the web that shows the shifter. This is not my bike)

http://www.firstflightbikes.com/playshift.JPG

So far I've found a reproduction, for use on Raleigh 3SPD Choppers, (shifter are same as mine so it would work!) but these are for sale on the UK eBay for UK buyers only.

Does anyone know where to find one?

If not I'll end up making one out of clear plastic and use black, stick-on numbers but I'm hoping to find an original or repro which IMO would look far better.

Thanks,
Ken

Sure it does. Just take the ol' polish to it. Hear's a tip, use a drill mounted buffer. They have just enough oomph to get the job done, but not so much power that the buffer wheel would fly apart like if you mounted the wheel on a grinder. Special buffers can be pretty expensive. Just my 2 cents. >: )

thats kind of stupid bc u have to take apart the whole rim to polish it, then reassemble it and it still wont look as good as chrome
