I am having a very difficult time finding 28" single tube tires for a bicycle I saved from the dump a few years back. I suspect that the bicycle is from the late 20's due to the wooden wheels, skip link chain, and coaster brake construction. Is there still a source for these tires, and if so, where.
Cokertire.com has the tires and tubes
I think John at Schipplings in Kitchener Ontario has a few in stock (He'll be 92 in June and the company has been in the bike buisines for about 100 years)
Is john ok?? I've been by the store and see that he's been closed and no one answers the phone.
I'm wondering if anyone can tell me whether or not bicycles from the '70s were painted with lead based paint? I'm literally in the middle of sanding and I feel sick... Thank you.
That's a very interesting question. I've heard of car and bicycle paints being laquer or enamel, but never heard about the paint containing lead.
Hi Arika, I can only speak from British made bikes but the majority produced in the 70's were stove enamalled and this process contains no lead. You may find that sanding in an enclosed area without ventilation and with face mask on will have make you feel unwell. Try water bases paint stripper, its easier and quicker IMHo
restore or not please help
Hi, in the middle of cleaning my old triumph 3 speed- bought the cleaning kit -- was wondering if anyone has the paint & rust tips sheet that comes with it--- the info wasnt included when it was sent... I'll take anything I can get- and I dont want to ruin the paint. thanks!
"Hi there I was given a vintage Huffy Fury. THere is not a lot of information about Huffys' anywhere. I live in so. cal at the beach and have a few bike shops here. However, it seems to be like taking your car to get it fixed. each shop says there is a different issue and with each opinion I get a completely different price. I do know that the # i found on the bottom of the crank shaft was the way I identified the model which is 2645-330 and the number i found on the back fork by the wheel hub is 608682. I cannot figure out the year. THere is no tank. The biggest issue is due to above model number is that the back wheel spins freely but does not move with the pedal when the pedal is pushed forward. There is no hand break or gear shift. Tonight when I took it to the last shop to see what the 3rd opinion would be, they told me I needed a whole complete new wheel, whilst this maybe true, I went with my gut (due to a few hundred dollars) came home and looked up the only fury information I could find which was a vintage advertisement for sale on ebay and the very little info I have about this bike and I am fairly certain this is or was a 2 speed missing the gear shift or handbreak, I found the bendix cable holder down near the back wheel. So rather than going on and on here. How can I change this out to make this a coaster break without spending a bunch of money to see if that is the issue first? I am glad I followed my gut because none of the shops said a word about the 2 speed. Sorry to go on and on I am looking for as much information as I can get on this bicycle before I fork money to buy parts I do not need. thanks so much!
One more thing if this helps me get info. The huffy logo on the front in metal says Made in Azusa, California. If I need to post pics I will. thanks again
