AGE / VALUE:   Our Special no. 9 posted by: Andy on 7/31/2007 at 4:18:46 AM
I am not having much luck finding info on a bike made by Western Wheel Co. The model is " Our Special no. 9 ". I think it is a 1890's era. Any help would be appreciated. Point me in the right direction. Thank you.

Western wheel co was in chicago, and made the cresent brand bike. They were noted for making bikes without the use of heavy forgings for the bottom bracket crank area or teh fork head. Even their sprockets were made from folded over steel. I have a cresent number 1 from 1894 that my dad rides that is made tht way and it is very strong. He has ridden iton at least 3 century rides with no problems. You might try the wheelmen web site at www.thewheelmen.org They have a library with copies of catalogs on cd for sale.

WANTED:   Looking to buy functional Hi-Wheeler posted by: Jonas on 5/18/2007 at 11:24:05 AM
Looking to buy functional - but not necessarily a collector's item - HI-WEELER or Pennyfarthing type - can be a reproduction. I need this bicycle for a theater show in Quebec, Canada.
Also, if anybody knows a company that custom builds these types of bikes that would also be an option.

Thanks

I know you posted this a while ago. Did you find what you were looking for? If not you may want to cekc out rideable Replicas in Alameda, California. The builder's name is Greg Barron. He has been in the family business his whole life. I have one of his penny farthings and have been riding it for years. He is easy to find through a google search. In fact I believe the website is rideablereplicas.com. Good luck

AGE / VALUE:   1972 Peugeot PA-10 posted by: keith on 4/27/2007 at 9:15:23 PM
I recently purchased a PA-10 and have converted it to a fixie. I am looking at making some update and wanted to know if anyone knew anything about the bottom bracket. I know there are some retro fits out there; however, they are pricey and I don't want to buy the wrong one. I am interested in spindle length and what types of pitfalls I should avoid. Thanks for your time.
