WANTED:   Persons Majestic Metal Pull Chain Siren posted by: Larry on 9/3/2008 at 1:40:53 PM
Interested in purchasing excellent condition, one Persons Majestic All Metal Pull Chain Police/Ambulance Siren, manufactured circa 1941-1945. There are many posts about this on the web but no one has gotten back to me so far. Thought I would give this website a try.

Shouldnt be too hard to find, I see them on ebay all the time - just not the reference "Police/Anbulance". This siren has been reproduced by the original manufacturer several years ago. Call Memory Lane:

BALLOON:   SCHWINN MAJESTIC HELP NEEDED posted by: TJ Kirchner on 8/30/2008 at 8:31:46 PM

Right, so today, my Wife and I are taking the dog to the groomers. We took a backroad through town and i spy a guy puttering along on a cruiser framed bicycle... but i notice something "Say, Jamie.. did you see what that guy was riding?" No, she replies.. "Well.. it was a beach cruiser type frame.. but it looked like he had a drivetrain from a really old bike.. ".. So we drop off the dog and I say.. You know, I could probably buy that off that guy.. Lets go try to find him.. (half jokin).. SO we did.. and he only made it up a few blocks from where we were.. I knew it was him.. i spied the Skip tooth Sprocket again.
We pulled up next to him and i Rolled my window down. " Hey man. Where did you get that bike" He gives me a look like , no i didn't steal this bike (thats why he had painted the whole damn thing blue, right?) And i say to him. No, i really like it.. I'll buy it off of you. I got out of the car and could see the brass Schwinn Majestic headbadge gleaming out from under the blue paint.
I've got cash.. I'll give you $20 for it, right now..
It took him a min.. I think he was hoping that i'd offer more money..
But he TOOK IT!!!!
I bought it from him for $20.. i know that just the headbadge alone is worth That much!!!
YOW!
Now I'm trying to figure out just what I bought. And should i restore it? should i clean it up and just make it a rider? should i sell it? as is? or clean the paint off? How much?
Here's what i know:
Headbadge reads
M
Schwinn
Majestic
Arnold Schwinn
&co
Chichago
USA
Frame is brick red with white scalops
White headtube
Down Tube has s like thingy in the scalloping.
Forks are red, Have three lines coming down from the top.. the upper 6 inches of the fork have reflective tape on them.. looks like from the 60s or so.. the handle bars have the same tape in spots.
Tires read PHOENIX HARBURG Extra Prima Made in Germany 26x2.125 reg no. 877944
Rims have been painted over but were white.
Ft Hub stamped Schwinn in script
Rear has NEW DEPARTURE on anti rotate arm, has grease fitting on hub body and NEW DEPARTURE MODEL D MADE IN USA stamped into it.
It also has a welded kickstand bracket (think this means post wwii)
Stamped into the bottom bracket F298489
Chainring is skiptooth with 5 hearts
schwinn cross on seat tube
no chain guard.
found pics of similar bikes.. most definatly a schwinn majestic.. not sure if they all had tanks or not.
whaddu guys think?
Here's mine:

AGE / VALUE:   Help ID this old Columbia! Three Star? posted by: Jerry on 8/26/2008 at 10:48:23 AM
Hi,

I saved a really cool old bike from the town dump but don't know what model it is. I have pictures of it, its a Columbia with a rear fender and body moldings. I live in Northwest Connecticut if anyone is interested in it I would sell it relatively cheap to the right person who would want to restore it. Medium surface rust on a few of the chrome parts, rims and frame, but it appears to be all there and original including the bell on the handle bars! I have posted photos of it hanging in my barn at

http://i402.photobucket.com/albums/pp109/Tractorshaft/Columbia/IMG00080copy.jpg

Does anyone have any idea what I should ask for it? Thanks in advance!

Jerry

BALLOON:   Vintage Sears Spaceliner posted by: Dan on 8/20/2008 at 3:03:44 PM
Hi, I have a Sears Spaceliner. It's mostly chromed out with a red tail rack, chrome fenders, 26" Schwinn wheels and is equipped with a coaster brake. There are three sets of numbers on the rear left dropout. They are 502, 469010 and 340364 in that order. I am trying to find out the date of manufacture and if there are other parts that I am missing.
Is there someone out there who can help me find this information ? Please get back to me at s_surfer84 at Yahoo dot ca

Spaceliners are Murray-built. I have not been able to find date info for Murray serial numbers. 64 or 65 is awful close. There are pictures and catalog info on the oldroads picture database that will give you an idea of the original equipment. Schwinn wheels? That's not right. Murray rims have a distinctive shallow V shape. A chrome Spaceliner would usually have a Bendix AutoMatic rear hub, and if memory serves, the front hub was unidentified.

I believe your hub is made by Sachs. It was also used on CCM bikes and labeled Duomatic. It is supposedly a better hub than the Bendix Automatic.

we had a thread about this some years ago. (2001 is when I took pictures of the hub I have.) Bendix might have licensed something from Sachs, because some hubs of the Sachs design carry a Bendix logo. I have a driegang coaster brake hub that reads Bendix Torpedo. I am pretty sure it's not "tarpedo"- the script they used makes the o look like an a.

BALLOON:   Schwinn Mystery Bike posted by: Ronnie on 8/19/2008 at 3:18:33 PM
My father has an old Schwinn that he is about to go crazy trying to identify and value. He thinks it is a 1946 model, but isn't sure. The serial number is C81096. It has a springer front end, front drum brake and factory indentations on the rear frame to accomodate a motor drive belt. The center post has the Schwinn logo, and the headbadge is brass with a crown and the word "Royal" on it. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated (I've spent many hours on the I-net trying to help him, but can't find too much of anything ... especially can't find any reference to the "Royal" headbadge. Thanks!
