AGE / VALUE:   a 1933 shelby posted by: john on 8/14/2007 at 5:20:49 PM
i was given this bike by an 87 year old collector, and in turn gave it to my bike scrounger- rehabber friend paul. we would like to sell it and donate the money to a bike advocacy group like pedals for progress. it is a 1933 shelby flying cloud, women's 26 inch wheel, with a delta silver ray and delta defender light system, a long battery box, and a horn on the handlebar. the stem is ornate. it's in rough shape. the fenders appear to be chrome or nickel plate under an amateur paint job-- not sure of the frame. seat is a troxel. any ideas out there?

Anyone know what year the J C Higgins had the three round Buick styled portholes in the tank. The rear rack has the twin round reflectors 4 inches apart. My guess is 1950-52 ?

I see on the chart K00000 through K99999 would be 1953. You'd have to read the complete number correctly. Does the bike look like early fifties or different era...can you post a photo.

I found this bike in the garbage that someone was throwing away, it looked old and pretty cool, so I grabbed it. I tried looking online for info on this model and cannot find anything, I cannot even find a serial # on the bike.
Tire Size:
Female
Original paint
Seat condition: 10/10
Paint Condition: 8/10
Extras: Front Light/Horntank/Rear Rack.

I have several pictures that I can email to people to review. I beleive to be between 1940-1950.

Basically I am looking to find out the model/year/value of this bike, if anyone can help me please email me cvanhoeck@banyanol.net.

You need to a picture to tell the brand. The number does not look like a Shwinn number. There is a forum for Schwinn on Schwinn's site. http://www.schwinnbike.com/heritage/forumdisplay.php?forumid=3

from yesterday I am proud to be the owner of a simplex byke. As fas as I know your serial number does not have letters and only has 5 digits. It means I think it was manufactured between 1950 and 1953 since it was 1953 when introduced the 6 digits.

MISC:   monark thunderbird? posted by: craig on 7/27/2007 at 11:12:50 AM
i have an old cruiser with the name 'thunderbird' on the chain guard; all other markings are worn off/ painted over. the rear carrier has a white stripe down the center, and what looks like a crown or two. it vaguely resembles an older monark thunderbird i've seen a picture of, but not exactly. is there a serial number on monarks somewhere? any ideas on age? if not a monark, other ideas? would love to find parts to restore it if i knew what it was! has an old 3-speed sturmey-archer hub on it now. thanks!

BALLOON:   serial number CQ57.8364 posted by: Harvey on 7/26/2007 at 8:14:53 PM
I'm trying to figure out what model Schwinn this is, from the serial number.CQ57.8364, the tire size is 26x 2.125, but this has a sprocket on the rear wheel, like a ten speed, and you can only shift the rear sprockets. One lever, this also has hand breaks, but the rear wheel is internal. It's blue in color, and has chrome fenders. Can anybody identify this.

The RX-5 five star reproduction was in a run of 5,000 bikes.I own a reproduction and have a certificate of Authenticity that came with bike and is numbered reflecting what number of the 5,000 my bike represents. I am not sure if that same number appears anywhere on the bike. However,if you find a number between 1-5,000 it a good chance you have the reproduction module.
Currently, I attempting to determine what my reproduction model is and would appreciate any help in placing an estimated value.

Jack,

Where is your serial stamped? There is a number under the crank hub but is begins with a 6. Front wheel hub says made in W. Germany.

Sorry, I have no camera at this time. The bike is a Roadmaster, circa 1942 with the curved prewar tank, curved chain and seat stays, plus curved fender braces, black out hubs...Morrow rear & New Departure front. 1942 - 1944 is my guess on this bike with a prewar frame and the black out hubs. I know production stopped during the War, but bikes were still assembled from existing parts. A nice original bike....just hoping to pin down the frame date.
