Cannot see the pictures. The address you are using for Flickr is wrong. There has to be something between the word "Flickr.com" and the photo name "dscf2276.jpg"

AGE / VALUE:1941 Hiawatha Coast King original posted by: John S on 10/29/2010 at 7:24:49 PM
Hello all. Neighbor's mom has an original Hiawatha reportedly from 1941-43. Coast King serial MO1698. Girls bike. I have pictures and it's in very good original condition, reportedly with original tires, seat. Small tank. Blue with red head tube and red accents on fork blades, fenders, seat tube. Skip tooth crank.

In the photos, I see no rust, an in tact head badge Gamble's Hiawatha with image of a streamliner train.

Neighbor's mom is interested in selling, lives in Montana.

Any help?

I'm curious- Coast King was the Coast to Coast Hardware brand; how did it get on a Gamble's bike?
Is it possible to see pictures?

AGE / VALUE:WHAT WAS IT? posted by: Dennis Simmons on 10/13/2010 at 9:25:37 AM
I have a Schwinn from Sept 25, 1948, but trying to find out what model it was. I thought it was a Panther but they where not made till 1950. The frame has a straight bar on it and has a coil spring fork with no lock, and the head badge says Schwinn in siler lettering with a almost copper color in back ground, Anyone can help email me at dp7304@msn.com put 1948 in title so i don't delete it as spam.

as long as it doesn't have pinstripe you can use Soft Scrub, but if it has pinstripe don't do it I made that mistake once.

I picked this bicycle up over the weekend. I'm not sure what I have. It says western flyer and I believe it was made by Huffman. Any info would be appreciated on the age and value of the bicycle.

I think Huffman is right. The frame is a good match for a 1940 Huffman Airflyte on nostalgic.net. There's one a year or two older in that archive with a similar springer. I didn't check later Huffmans for variation; somewhere on this board is some talk about when Western Auto switched from Huffman to Murray which might help nail it down.
I would have expected a tank on a springer bike. Any sign of a tank? Your front fender is mounted wrong (backwards?) -the rearward braces should be horizontal. Saddle, tires and paint...

No sign of a tank or even an indication it had one. Don't know about front fender but thinks for the tip. I'm new to this so just trying to identify it and est. value. Thanks for your help.

Those appear to be middleweight tires 26x1.75. If so, it's probably mid-fifties.

AGE / VALUE:Torpedo Werke posted by: Lindsay on 9/7/2010 at 5:24:16 AM
I recently purchased a vintage bike off craigslist and I can't find a single other bike like it on the net. It is a Torpedo Werke AG made in Frankfurt Germany around 1956... I think. The back fender has holes on either side that have been strung to make a skirt. The front fender has an ornament on it (a wheel with wings that says torpedo.) The serial number is 1071698. It has a Raleigh crank and a Sturmey archer 3 speed internal gear shift which I assume where replacement parts. If anyone knows anything about these bicycles or their value I would really appreciate the help.

You need to post a picture so it can be evaluated. Girls bikes are not valuable compared to boys, they are usually used as parts bikes. I have a couple of Schwinn girls bikes that I'll never part out but they aren't worth much as a whole. Post a few pics. or send me an e-mail with pics. to pcraik1960@hotmail.com
