Hi,
I collect very early Japanese motorcycles (1909-1959) and also have several motorized bicycles and engines from Japan. I have two Sunlight bicycle engines, one mounted on a Miyata bicycle and the other not mounted.

I have two early Honda CUB engines as well.

To my knowledge, Sunlight was a very popular bicycle engine but was not owned by Yamaguchi. Yamaguchi made bicycles and completed the transition to motorcycles around 1953. They went out of business in 1963. Yamaguchi was imported by PABATCO (Pacific Basin Trading Company) in Oregon and they could have added the motorized bicycles powered by Sunlight engines to their offering, but I do not remember seeing the bikes listed on any literature.

There is an active group that follows Hodaka motorcycles and there is a direct tie between them and the Yamaguchi brand.

I have lots of contacts in Japan and bring in motorcycles and the occasional motorized bicycle.

Let me know if I can be of any further help. Allen

MOTORIZED BICYCLES:   help please posted by: bill on 5/27/2010 at 7:10:24 AM
I have been reading over the messages posted on this site. They seem very helpful. So I built my first motorized bike with an 80cc zb black slant head engine kit mounted on a 26' falcon gt (beach cruiser) . Looks very cool and runs ok but I want to get more speed out of it. Started out going about 23-25mph max. And through messing with the carb adjuster screw got to about 27mph on straight away. Any suggestions ??? I also bought a 12v headlight generator kit of ebay but it rarely works so i want to attach it directly to the engine, do i need any special parts? Is this a bad idea? will it hurt the engine or rob performance? Any ideas will be sincerely appriciated.

This website can answer any ?? you will have. You have to register &&& " introduce yourself " in that particular forum. Then READ,,,,READ,,,,,READ.
Also, basically, the light generator kit is NOT a good choice. Go battery powered.

Ok I now have some more info. This was a custom made bike from the 60's using a Schwinn tandem frame and a Solex 3800 motor. What I need is a good running used 3800 motor if any one has one.
Thanks

If you go to this website, which searches ALL Craigslists,, type in Solex, or Velosolex, & you will get some results. Narrow the results down by geophrical area at the top of the results listed. Sometimes you will find a complete Solex for as cheap as just a motor.
