FOR SALE:1950s Raleigh Clubman style 3 speed posted by: Peter on 3/1/2011 at 7:13:33 AM
A move to a smaller apartment means several bikes have to find new loving homes! Offered here is a circa 1956 Raleigh "Canadian" bike. If you don't count me, as I never rode the bike, this is/was a one owner bike as I bought it from an older gent who said he bought it as a young adult. I'll let the photos I posted on-line tell of the condition http://www.flickr.com/photos/83868261@N00/sets/72157623653504799/ . I believe that the rear hub is not original and this may of been a single speed or fixed gear originally and sometime around 1967 the gent changed it to a 3 speed. If you know the story of the model 'Canadian' please share as I've not been able to find anything on-line. Asking $400. Many shipping options are available. Please email, post a reply, or call me at 1-450-906-1295 or you have questions. -Peter

FOR SALE:1960s J.C. Higgins FlightLiner wome's 2 speed posted by: With tank, glass, and 2 speed Bendix hub on 3/1/2011 at 6:58:57 AM
Another bike that needs to go to thin the stable is this 1960-1964 women's frame FlightLiner. I will let the photos speak for the condition of the bike. They can be seen here http://www.flickr.com/photos/83868261@N00/sets/72157625897342380/ . No real issues to speak of. There is the slightest of surface rust starting on the V cross brace between the down tube and 'top' tube and other than the front fender is missing and pedals and tires are not original this really only needs a cleaning and not a restoration. Asking $375 and can ship from either the Canadian or USA side of the border (I live 45 minutes north in Montreal). I can also meet in person within a 1-2 hour drive. Email me or call me at 1-450-906-1295.

FOR SALE:1940s AUTOMOTO Women's 3 Speed derailleur bike posted by: Peter on 3/1/2011 at 6:45:27 AM
Hi all, I'm planning a move to a smaller apartment so some bikes have got to go. Here I have a circa mid to late 40s women's frame Automoto that's in need of a restoration. It's complete except for the brake levers. I believe the rear derailleur and grips are not original. Other than that it would make an excellent base for a restoration. I'll let my pics speak for the condition of the bike and they can be seen here http://www.flickr.com/photos/83868261@N00/sets/72157625931878415/ . Many photos available by request. I'm a Canadian living 45 minutes from the USA-Canada border so I can offer to ship from either side. I am also willing to meet in person if you are in the Montrea, Ottawa, Albany, or Burlington VT area. Asking price is $300 plus actual shipping. Email me, post a reply, or I can also be reached by phone in the evenings at 1-450-906-1295. -Peter

FOR SALE:Wanted: 28" rear westrick rim wheel posted by: Charles on 2/16/2011 at 1:15:05 PM
Hey everyone... I need a rear wheel, westrick rim, 28" for a Raleigh DL-1 Loop Frame Roadster I'm restoring. Nice to have an SA three- speed hub, but I might be interested in the rim if you have just that. Please let me know and many happy roads to you!

RE:FOR SALE:Wanted: 28 posted by Geoff Rogers on 2/28/2011 at 10:03:06 AM
Westrick rims were never made in 28 inch size. These are the so-called "Raleigh Patent" or "Raleigh Pattern" rims, designed to work with either rod brakes or caliper brakes. They are a hybrid between Endrick rims, which will only work with caliper brakes, and Westwood rims, which are for roller-lever, or rod brakes only.
The 28-inch rim you need is a Westwood.
I have one or two but the chrome is poor.

I actually sold an altenburber 28in front road bike rim on ebay about 3 months ago. I do come across rare rims from time to time if you are in need of one. Feel free to follow my blog.

RE:FOR SALE:Wanted: 28 posted by Chris on 3/1/2011 at 1:42:25 PM
I agreed( past tense) that Raleigh never made westrick in 28 only in 26 inch what you need is a westwood which is for rod brakes only UNTIL, PEOPLE WHO FREQUENT THIS DISCUSSION GROUP PRODUCED RALEIGH TOURIST BICYCLES THAT ARE ROD BRAKE BIKES WITH 28 X 1 1/2 wheels same Sempret Raleigh Roadster 28 x 1/2 tires same bicycles as ours are but later on at some point any only in some part of the world or because it was cheaper or because it was an experiment??

Raleigh used 28 inch westrick rims on the d.l.1. tourist
rims that would take either cable brakes or also used and are compatable with, ROD BRAKES! ROD BRAKES, THE SAME ROD HANDLEBAR AND ROD LINKAGE BUT WITH THE WESTRICK RIM

SO IT APPEARED IN PICTURES BEFORE US AND MORE THAN ONE
PERSON POPS UP WITH THIS SET UP!

97% OF ALL THE RALEIGH TOURIST BICYCLES HE SEE HERE OR DISCUSS HAVE WESTWOOD RIMS EXCEPT FOR A FEW PEOPLE LIKE CHARLES HERE.

THE LAST RALEIGH TOURIST D.L.1'S WERE GREEN AND CALLED "ROYAL ROADSTER" AND THOSE HAD THE WESTWOOD RIMS NOT WESTRICK SO THIS WAS AN EXPERIMENT PERHAPS OUT OF FEAR THAT THR ROD LINKAGE WOULD JUMP OFF THE RIMS, GET HUNG UP OR NOT BE A SUFFICENT BRAKING SURFACE? ANYWAYS, IT WILL TAKE SOME LOOKING BUT THESE ARE OUT THERE STAY IN TOUCH WITH JAY
