FOR SALE:   FS: Beautiful Mercier Mixte 20" posted by: Velouria on 8/9/2010 at 2:32:43 AM
For sale is a beautiful Mercier mixte bicycle from my collection (see "Suzanne" here: http://lovelybike.blogspot.com/p/my-bicycles.html). It is refurbished and ready to ride, with updated components. This bicycle is a 20" frame, ideal for someone 5'4" - 5'6"

The Mercier is most likely early 1970s. It has been converted to 5-speed, with wide versatile gearing that makes it suitable for hilly areas as well as for around town. The bicycle has new tires with Kevlar puncture protection, VO fenders, a kickstand, and a Mafac front rack.

I am asking $350. Please get in touch at filigreevelo-at-yahoo-dot-com .

WANTED:   Crank Cotter Pin Remover posted by: Ron on 8/7/2010 at 10:43:24 AM
I'm looking for the tool that enables one to remove the cotter pins from cottered cranks. It doesn't seem to be manufactured anymore. Park Tool made one - product number was CR-2. I did the You Tube thing with a vise and a wrench socket and it worked to get pins out, but I need a good way to get a new pin back in. Thanks.

Hi,
J.C.Whitney has a ball joint tool, which I bought for around $27. You can order online; just Google the name.
Back the nut off a few turns. Place a couple layers of inner tube over the nut, before you apply pressure to it. Once it slips you may want to back the nut off a few more turns and repeat, but usually you can just tap it out without damaging anything. The tool easily presses the cotter back in. Just don't overdo it.

Good Luck.
